OT It's funny how S4 is outselling S5 in UK and how grey color of One sell better than Z2.

The funniest is how the iPhone 5C is no.2 yet is still called a failure.

Good job sony, 4 steps forward and 5 steps back. Unless Z3 is getting release much earlier AND they actually make it in time with no delays then thats fine. If they go with higher clock/bin S801 then it would still be good. S800 to S801 were barely any difference, they better keep the 3 gigs ram. |

So will there ever be another large-screened option from Sony, or will it just be the Z_ and the Z_ Compact? |

According to another tweet by doomlord, a 7-8 inch tablet will replace the ultra, hopefully IFA. |

The Z Ultra was a highly niche device to begin with, so I'm not surprised its being killed off.
I don't really give a shit if you loved it and you now hate Sony for not releasing a successor, but let's get our facts straight. If a product didn't sell particularly well, there is little to no point wasting R&D budget (especially in Sony's case) on dead end niche products, particularly if they are reliant on economies of scale to keep things affordable at their end.
A 7-8 inch tablet on the other hand, is a hugely vibrant market. You got your Nexus 7 and your iPad mini as obvious points. Also the Note 8.0 and G pad 8.3. All Sony has to do, is make a tablet, enable LTE and give it the ability to make calls. BOOM a Z-ultra successor, which functions better as a proper tablet, rather than being a freak tablet hybrid. |

really hope sony pushes hard into the american market this coming year. it's frustrating as a sony fan to read all this tech news from big sites about intel's "paper thin" prototype tablet when the Z2 tablet is thinner by a whole millimeter, yet it's not even mentioned in the articles. Sony needs to increase it's market presence if it has any chance in re-establishing its brand.
now the biggest question for me (sorry off topic a bit..) is if and when sony will sell off their TV division.. i'll definitely need to pick one up before they do!

The Z Ultra didn't make sense from day 1, I have no idea of what Sony was doing, they could've just created a 5.9inch Note 3 competitor with enterprise focused software along with the any pen/pencil input.

I wonder if Sony will release any more GPE phones. Only Z ultra so far. We need more. I think this will enable them to sell more handsets.

From an economic standpoint it isn't a failure. But from any other standpoint it is..

The US blogosphere is Apple/Google land with the occasional Microsoft showing here and there.. don't expect them to care about Sony.. if google made the Z2 tablet it will be all over the news, but since they didn't.. it doesn't matter. The ipad is the only tablet that matters in the US, at least for now.
As far as the Intel machine... its way more impressive than any of the mentioned tablets since it runs full fledged X86 Windows. Its a CORE chip @ 14nm , cool stuff. It almost makes me think that Sony sold the Vaio business a bit too early.. just imagine what they could do with tech like that. |

its sad to see them selling the VIAO, especially after they release something like the tap 11, saw it at the store, was blown away by how thin that thing is and light it is, its has poor battery and no wacom pen is a bit of a let down, but like many Sony device, their 2 or 3rd tries usually improve significantly. But it doesn't matter anymore, even if they come up with something revolutionary or mind blowing, their PC line up are not going anywhere with the kind of marketing effort they putting in and there is really no reason to even be in windows pc market consider the tiny profit margin. People buy mac book for the apple brand, 9/10 of the pc buyers just walk out of the store with whatever cheapest pc they can find in the store, not many people pay for quality or design. This is very much the same with their TV. |

Sony need a Z Ultra successor to compete with the competitors like the note 4 for example. Of course 6.5" was a bad and wrong decision, but 6" with smaller bezels would look way different...
I wouldn't give up the ultra series already... It's a mistake!
In my opinion they need a new Ultra more than another/next Z2 successor which isn't really a successor in my eyes...
Z3 comes to early if the rumors are true and I don't see what sense it make with same cpu again...
Z Ultra to Z2 Ultra makes much more sense! There are so many things you can fix now.
