@blu,did the connections now its working fine i gues.....now i can acess files on my desktop from my lapto...by going from start > My network places...but this option is missing in my start button on my desktop.how do i get this option in my start button??

Right click taskbar -> Properties -> Start Menu -> Customize -> Advanced -> My Network Places.

@jn,yup..almost a month  before i send it to service,i want to trasfer a lot of photos,games and songs to my desktiop...so was setting up Lan connection.

alternatively you can create a shortcut on your desktop with the target as \\yourcomputername

i got it on my start button...but now it doesnt show any folders as shared as its shown in my laptop.

that's because you have to share folders on your laptop. Right click a folder -> Sharing and security.
@jn my balance is in the negative region right now; yes, I can live without my cell .

just go to run and enter
\\ip\c$
for d drive enter d$ . if u don't know the ip than simply enter computer name!
if u don't know ip or name than go to dos prompt and type net view
it will display all the pc which is online on lan
