Metal bumper for SONY Xperia Z1, looks nice
Agree, it looks nice.
But the question is, can you still charge the phone in the Magnetic charging dock with the metal bumper applicated?

Expectations were high for a reason I would say. One Sony, camera-centric device, Sony's true imaging hardware (from compacts) inside mobile phone..... And you know what - ALL of it is there. The only thing lacking is optimized IP algorithm.
I'm just afraid if BOINZ mobile update doesn't come, if all this was some fairytale until new flagship comes (Z2?) in Jan/Feb.... so Z1 would be forgotten/"old" phone. Sorry for being pessimist
Cheers,
Miki

@Sponse:
You did the right thing, dust in your lens affects picture quality much more than outside the lens.
And your dust looked pretty big, not acceptable for a dust proof device!
The screen issue is annoying, but I guess not preventing use one of the phone main function.
However, you should go ahead and be annoying with your shop.
Try another sales man, another day, ask to talk to his supervisor, to the customer center to claim they refuse to handle your screen defaulting quality.
This story annoys me, this is the Sony quality, and why they have a bad reputation in Japan.
On the paper it is the best phone, but you don't know what quality you get.
This is making me hesitating, would I get the sony, i would pay attention to the details reported here as much as possible before buying.

I finally saw what is causing the problem, the lcd is not aligned perfectly with the bezels, so there is a 1 mm gap between the upper bezel and the actual lcd.
I went to sony repair center, they told me to send it for control and that would take between 20-30 days!!!!
So o said no thanks i will keep it... I need to decide if i will live with it or send it for one month. So much for the best of sony.

Hello all,
New guy here so please excuse me if I make any mistakes posting and apologies if this has already been discussed.
I recently checked out the new Z1 at a Sony Store overseas. Seeing that Sony has some issues providing this phone in the U.S. with them deciding to bow out of the market for now, I decided I would try to pick one up out of the U.S. I wasn't keen on spending $800+ to get it online w/o warranty and found that the Sony Store was selling them at what converted to $730 with taxes and fees.
Small problem though, I pointed out to the Sony employee working there that the Ultra & Z seemed to have a better screen display than the Z1. The store had all 3 phones side by side and the Z1's screen had this almost washed look which was really strange. I played around with the settings in front of him and he mentioned that the Z1 has additional screen settings that people play around with and quickly turned my attention to how great the phone plays videos.
So now reading this post (I haven't read every page), I'm wondering if these phones are coming off the line with defects? I'm personally very confused here as to what to do because back at my home, Los Angeles, the phone isn't even available and on top of it all the Sony Store employee here said Sony isn't offering global warranty coverage on these phones.
Are they feeding me false info or is this true about the warranty? I don't want to be one of those people stuck with a bad screen and then not be able to get it fixed. What to do here guys? I'm rocking an iPhone 3gs (no joke) and need to join the 21st century already and waited for this phone for a long time, haha.
Thanks! |

Well... Look at GSM Arena test.
Z1 wins in daylight, is Runner up in low-light, and wins in Video.
I would say it will only get better. The same as with Z.

I think that the default wallpaper makes the screen look bad, the pale blue/grey would give the impression it is very washed out as you say, or maybe the brightness was turned down or the phone had a very bad screen possibly a demo model. I've had all the phones you mention and I am very happy with the screen on my Z1
Sponse - I was probably a bit harsh on my previous post mate - hope you get it resolved whatever you choose to do
Vikeviki - no I was not directly referring to you - simply my observations on other support forums - Indians have a tendency to complain a lot about very little - IMO |

I beleive you.
We should create a club!
@Sponse:
That sucks man, but personally I prefer a screen not perfectly aligned to a leaf in my lens.
In Japan I hope you would get it changed right away, so I would not mind being anoying.
But a month without phone is a bit extreme to replace a defective unit, and you don't know what you get instead of it, someone talked about his speaker not aligned with the frame here.
I guess it is not economical, but it would be much better for the end user if Sony had it's own factory.
I really feel they outsource the assembly to the cheapest firms available...

Way before the Z1 was even announced there was talk of it having 4K video capture and even some stills showing this in leaked info regarding the Z1. What I would like to know is it something Sony could add to the Z1 with a software update if it is just being held back at 1080p untill Sony polish it off (the Galaxy Note 3 is laggy) so it looks as good as it should. Can anybody help.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head

@Sponse If you can deal with it, keep it. My personal feeling on this, it's an obvious defect. If you're still within the return period, I would go directly to the store and ask for an exchange. Do not settle for a repair, you want an exchange for a brand new unit that you can inspect in store. If there's a problem with the proposed exchange unit, go for another one! This is no different than having an engine in your car with improper torque specifications on the bolts, no guarantee things won't get loose anywhere down the line! Like Shotokan said, talk to another sales person and/or the supervisor. If it's a chain store, go to a different store. Once again, this is my opinion on your issue, it's really up to you to decide on what action to take. |

suffice it to say that when you put fairly close competitors together you will get different results from different people.
having a Z1, i know what it's capable of and I know what I can do with it and I'm very happy with it. That's all that matters to me. i think it's kinda silly judging shootouts from review sites who spend less than a week with devices. it's just not a good comparison, plain and simple.
i do find it interesting that gsmarena is giving Z1 such high marks in video now after pretty much trashing it before.

i will live with it, they won't exchange it for me, they wanted to send it to the repair, i will never buy in that chain of stores again. i can live with it, as you can notice it, just under direct sun, and the other demo unit had the same issue!! so i dunno... i will live with it right now.. |
