What I find most amazing about this whole multi-touch debacle is that even the HTC G1 - the first Android phone released 2 years ago - had multi-touch. I can't even fathom how those making decisions at Sony came to the conclusion that the X10 didn't need hardware capability that's offered on nearly every other Android phone. How many Android phones lack hardware multi-/dual-touch support?
Exactly.
Also, it's funny that people say "it's only the geeks that care" on the MT/DT issue. I've been (shamelessly ) promoting the X10 for months now to people in my office and most of my friends (techy or not). Most are, at the very least, mildly interested in it. When techies start to walk away for the X10, I think the fallout will be huge.
As previously stated, I can't help but feel sad for the X10 as well as the guys who got (and will get screwed) by SE. |

I notice the regular troop of Fanboi parrots have suddenly stopped their squawking - difficult to argue with the Reg.
We shall see what impoact t6is has on X10 sales but it can`t be helpful and it`s being mentioned before most have got their hands on it -will it make them pause for thought especially with two very strong HTC rivals either available or imminently so and not to mention the Nexus, Galaxy and upcoming iPhone. Same old story with SE so slow to develop because they`re still playing catch up from terrible choices in 2006-2008 and they don`t have an OS platform of their own or a third party one that they`re familiar working with or sufficient resources to run with the number they`re trying to develop for. They can`t go exclusively Android coz Moto and HTC own that turf and are in bed cozily with Google now and SE is an outsider to that party so what do they do? I dunno it`s a puzzler.
Meanwhile their development cycle is so slow that lot`s of products have either disappointed or been by-passed by the time they actually get to market (rather than 6-9 months trumpeting them - maybe should put PR team to work on Software development, might be more productive).
Let`s hope this succeeds because I think it`s make or break year for SE in current guise. |

I'm still up for the X10 - I want the UX, I want the 8MP cam and I want the design. Vanilla Android and Windows Mobile do nothing for me whatsoever. Plus, not every Android app will demand MT and there is enough apps to keep the X10 interesting.
Ultimately, all phones have their own attractions / limitations.

same for me. i love the X10's design, i love the camera's quality and face recognition, i like the UX skin and look forward to whatever they add to it in the future.
I've always liked the SE user experience and I look forward to having an X10 in my hands soon.

Wasn't X10 also originally announced with 16M colors, then corrected to 65K because of 1.6?
No, it wasn't. It was announced with 16,536 colors (wtf?) on the website and 262k in the whitepaper. It seemed like they didn't know what it is themselves. It was corrected to 65,536 colors later.

^ So is that confirmation that the screen is not 16M color capable? |

No, it's simply the answer to what the man asked.
But there is no confirmation that it is 16M colors capable either and I see no reason why we should believe it is capable of anything more than it's announced for (given the recent deceive on MT issue).

Got hands-on with the Xperia X10 today, check out our unboxing vid below. We also quickly compare it against the HTC Desire.
