I'm with you aksd. Wait until it's been released and the dust starts to fall a bit.
I got the Samsung i780 for much the same thinking that you got your e71. Just something to get me by until the X1, or maybe I'll wait a bit longer and see what else crops up. I like the Samsung but I'm still on the hunt for a WM phone with a fingertouch interface that actually works well.
I'm hopeful that the xperia panels will actually be quite useful and remove the need for the end user to come face to face with the WM UI for the basics of media, internet, phone and organiser functions, which all should be accessible within the finger touch ui without having to drop into the stylus dependent WM UI. I don't mind if the WM UI has to be used for settings and even file management - but for the basics mentioned, fingertouch control would be nice.

Yes. That's been my position all along.
seems to be aware of this, looking at some of the previews.

Just check page 4 of the X1 White paper to get the official info. The tech websites always seem to have something wrong in the spec listings. |

So, all T-mobile users won't be able to use the X1? or they can but can only use the wi-fi feature right? |

If you stick with T-Mobile, you'll be incompatible with their 3G (that's high-speed internet). You'll have to use their slower Edge connection for internet. Wi-Fi is a different animal and is not affected by whether you use T-Mobile or AT&T. You need to be near hot spots to use Wi-Fi.
So with T-Mobile you'll have:
Regular phone service
Edge
Wi-Fi
with AT&T you'll have:
Regular phone service
Edge
Wi-Fi

SE Announcement Regarding the US on November 3rd

Something seems fishy when they say there will be no U.S. version (X1a). I'm going to guess there was some sort of mis-communication between the rep and the reporter. Perhaps SE got wind of everyone turning up their nose at the video handicapped X1a ?
Or X1a will be announced on Nov 3rd ?

AFAIK, there is no need for an US version. The X1 supports a wide range of bands.

The Touch Hd does look quite apealing pity about the processor put in a snapdragon immediately!!

Not sure if this has been posted. Introducing the xperia panels...

Xperia is starting to attract my interest slowly. Mainly the fact its not far from release now.
Nope. They changed it to December now. Even if its next month, its still ten months from the date it was announced.
Spoke to Vodafone retentions today...they still have a release date of 9th Oct. They are sending me an OMNIA today, got sick of waiting.....especialy as today's announcment did not include any P x or X1 without keyboard
JD
Seems there are big problems with the VODAFONE firmware on the OMNIA with lots of people sending them back. Also stock problems....probably to do with all the returns they are having.....my delivery has now been put back until tomorrow. Maybe I should just cancel and wait until the end of the month for the X1. My only concern is that VODAFONE will screw up the X1 firmware too |

Going by what people have said on our forum, they're going back because the people HATE the Omnia.
I got mine yesterday and it's so slow! It's also pretty much all WM, with a front-end screen that's nowhere near as clever as Touch FLO or SE's panels.
My problem is this; why do we need so much work done to cover up the operating system? Is it like buying a cheap old wreck of a car, then putting a nice shiny new body kit and exhaust on it in the hope you won't notice you're still driving a cheap old wreck of a car?
Just imagine if the new HTC Touch HD was running S60 Touch.. Even UIQ would probably be better on the X1, but when Symbian/Nokia merges S60 and UIQ - THEN we'll have a combined OS and user interface that will make all these 'bodges' truly appealing. And maybe then, and only then, will anything be as slick as the Apple iPhone UI (but hopefully with many more features to keep us happy).

@jmcomms
I couldn't agree with you more!
Initially, this handset was quite appealing, in fact, I even overlooked the fact that it was running on WM. The waiting and the darn OS eventually took its toll on me and right now it is just another WM device.
One thing going for it though is its sleek design. SE knows how to design them.
I'm going to wait for the Symbian Foundation and take it from there.

I beg to differ. I own the HTC TyTn II and the E71 at the moment and S60 just does'nt cut it for me. I still prefer WM, although the UI may not be as user friendly the OS offers a lot more options regarding software and moddability. Going from WM to S60 feels like going from a smart phone to a dumb phone. But thats just me.
Making the UI slick is more of a differentiating factor among various WM phone manufacturers, adding their little touch to the OS giving the phone its very own identity, as well as make everyday usage a bit easier. Like I said after using S60 and WM I dont see how S60 is in anyway superior to WM except for Nokias add ons such as Ovi etc. I would rather own a slihgtly slower WM phone with its wide range of s/w available rather than a slightly quicker S60 phone which has very limited s/w when comapred to the WM one, but like I said thats just me. Although S60 does have its advantages, it does what its supposed to out of the box. |

Well the UI is plain, but that's not my complaint. What I'm looking for from WM now is a fingertouch interface. Whether it's something that Microsoft eventually build in as a native feature, or whether it's added by third party doesn't matter to me, as long as the majority of task I perform can be done by finger touch.
Even the standard s60 is no better in style than WM and doesn't have any kind of touch at all let alone finger. So imho WM is the next best thing to iphone when it comes to touch interface. Some of the finger touch shell enhancements have potential to bring it even closer to iphone. This is good for those of us who want iphone like ease of use with WM versatility and feature bloat (for all us dead zoners).
Old Bill Gates will embrace "finger" touch as well, but probably not before Nokia Touch hits the market.
