Status shouldnt be a deciding factor of what you expect to get or what one thing or person should offer. I hope you wouldnt pick you woman based on Status. hey isnt India the land of the "diamond in the rough"; what happened to that.
Great price $681 but for US I'm hoping that the 850Mhz band doesnt up the price.

@Prom1
no comments about the diamond....
but what i meant by status was what it is going to get once its released....with its so many higher end features it will easily be the best phone at least for the next 6 months..... to beat them nokia will have to produce a very stable and fast touchscreen phone....
and windows based ones need to improve much on their stability and bug issues before they can challege SE.....no ones wants to reset their phone every now and then....

Why does it even matter if the phone has 850MHz for the US? The "i" spec phones, i.e. 900, 1800, 1900 work just fine here and are supported by all GSM carriers in the US (except for maybe really small rural ones... maybe). That's why I never understand why they even bother doing a "a" spec.
Also, people say that the UMTS in the US is 1900 vs the 2100 used in the rest of world. Apparently this is also not fully correct, i.e. Europe uses 2100 for download and 1900 for upload. Because the 2100 band will not be available in the US till 2007, the current UMTS networks (Cingular) are forced to do up and down over 1900. This is supposed to change once the other band is available and they can start using it..

GSM phones in US uses GSM 1800 and 1900 and 850
if you have a phone that has 900 instead of this last one,
yes it will still work, but in some areas is not gonna have a great reception.
No biggie really....
but
for UMTS cingular uses 850/1900 for upload-download
in fact where available (about 15 city in Us like new york and san diego)
you can buy a LG CU500, that has those specs.
said that...the P990i 3G, is not gonna work here.
but a P990a is probably gonna have all of those frequenzy, so yes if you want to use the phone , at the full of its functionality....you should wait.

OK bands are ALWAYS rounded off so in Europe that 1900Mhz for upload is NOT the same as here in North & South America.
2) heshy1; your wrong with such a broad statement as I'm SURE that if you're in a highly concreate underground or above ground parking where a tower is anywhere from 5-7miles away that 1900Mhz band P900i will suffer down to 2bars. And with GPRS with those 2 bars fluctuating you're fubared for optimum speeds. But here in Canada with Rogers on 1900Mz same can be said.
Now Here in Canada I can goto my office where I work and the minute I'm in the steel walled elevator (IBM) then the 1900Mhz phones are FUBAR'd. The nearest celltower is 2km away more than enough range but that steel walls with mirrors kills it. 850Mhz phones that are capable of 2watts power (when the need arises, week signal for example; the 1900mhz phones are NOT capable of this btw) and can hold a quality phone call, sms, mms, gprs.
UNIQUELY because of our provider Rogers Wireless in Canada they ONLY offer EDGE on 850Mhz band; because just before they bought out the only GSM core network competition Fido (which was ailing) was exclusively on 1900mhz. That said UMTS+HSDPA here in Canada is gonna leap frog in time to more customers in the shortest time of development & initial launch compared to Cingular in the USA; Rogers will be launching HSDPA nationwide in EVERY major city in Canada by end of September - employees are ALREADY testing this. BOTh on the 850+1900Mhz band.
I want the P990i on the 850Mhz band because where I will be using the phone. I want quality coverage when I need it most. I made the SAME 1900mhz is enough arguement years ago until I was stuck in the garage at work; forgot my security badge and couldnt make a call and waited for 2hrs just to run up the ramp to get outside so I could go home to sleep for 4 hours before getting up to back to work!!!!! ARGH!
850Mhz is needed in Canada - Rogers' network on 1900Mhz was based on the TDMA core and was complete GARBAGE I know because back in 2001 I tested it before the public got to use it. Fido was core GSM (no TDMA garbage) but they screwed that up by tearing down towers.
