I've read abt those 84" 4k TVs from Sony & LG... But sadly Sony's one costs $25,000 & LG's jus $19,000 or something... So if Sony manages to produce a 110" 4k CLED TV for a much less price, it'll steal the glory from LG... Also LG's comin up with 4mm thin 55" OLED TV without bezel(hope U already know abt it) & it looked stunning & it costs around $8,000... Do you think CLED can compete with that...??? In terms of price, Sony will break it... But I haven't seen anyone compare CLED & OLED TVs by keeping them side by side... That's Y i'm askin... Apart from all those performances by CLED, I also heard a guy say it consumes much less power than OLED... Now that's a remarkable one...
We don't know if CLED will be able to beat OLED for absolute thinness of the TV, but considering there is no backlight like OLED, the bezel could be just as thin. I suppose it's just a matter of how Sony decides to design it.
As for comparisons, we will have to wait for direct comparisons, but I have read a couple of forum posts from people who say they saw both units at CES and apparently the motion on the CLED TV is absolutely amazing and better than the LG OLED (that person did not compare it to Samsungs). Colour accuracy and viewing angle are supposedly superior on CLED and black levels are supposed to be equal. I suppose the only other things to consider are response time and additional features they'll put into the TV
IIRC, the concept unit at CES only consumed about 70w, so a final unit might consume even less.
Great, thanks!

As long as Sony is superior in all those vital things like color accuracy, viewing angles, motion & power consumption and also priced as half as other brands, we've a clear winner here... Hope SONY will bounce back to top in TV & mobile division in 2013... Let's keep our fingers crossed... And Thank U for infos... |

Some more details and good news for Sony.
LG and Samsung put OLED TVs on hold http://www.whathifi.com/news/lg-and-samsung-put-oled-tvs-on-hold
-Contrast ratios are difficult to measure but Sony claims that photopic contrast (contrast measured under well lit conditions) is 3.5 times better than traditional and current LED backlit LCD TV panels.
-The 1.4 times better wide color gamut specification alludes to the benefits of being able to see more colors from the TV.
-But the biggest and badest specification difference in this display is the response time for video image processing. Sony claims that this Crystal LED TV is 10 times faster than what's out there right now. If that is true, there will be no motion lag, or jerky judder artifacts to speak of as well as incredible sports image processing.

Well according to rumours the CLED sets are supposedly only gonna be $4000 (unlikely to be honest, more like $6000-8000 at best) which would significantly undercut the monstrously expensive OLEDS. |

I know we're OT on this whole Crystal LED thing (unless of course it's considered a potential future display tech for mobile, in which case it's on topic ), but I was just reading this article and the last paragraph was a little interesting:

I don't know if it might be something lost in translation, but it seems to imply that AUO is manufacturing the Crystal LED components. I might be mis-reading the article, so anyone else can comment on this? |

I'm guessing Sony gets 6.65 million units this quarter |

Just a reminder guys - I only posted the 7 million based on IDC data. It may be more than 7 million too. 2 more days left for the official figures to be released by Sony.
I personally think it should be more than 7, even 8+ as Q2 figures were mostly just Xperia S, U, Sola, P. Q3 includes Acro S and Go and few other phones which have done well. Also Forbes estimate for Sony Q3 is 8+ million units and 11 million units for Q4.
@vivftp
No, they just mention that AUO is now supplying LED panels to Sony. Crystal LED components Sony is sourcing from Nanoco technologies apparently.

Do you know what's Sony stance on its tablet series? Does the tablets have the same priority as the mobile phones? Logically, the new tablet would have higher specs than Yuga/Odin, right?
I also gonna try my luck in answering your quiz . Since Sony plans to sell 34 million units by FY13 and already sold 7.4 million in Q1, there are 26.6 million left for Q2,3,4. Assuming Q4>>Q3>Q2, so the number will be 7.98 million units. |

God, how I hope this is how thin the bezel of Odin/Yuga would be.
AUO demonstrates world's thinnest-bezel display
Also, 7.41 million.

To be honest i think when holding a 5 inch display and trying to reach the corners with such a thin bezel i would probably touch the screen in other areas.... But true, its damn sexy.
Is there absolutely no news concerning the V? I will be in Europe from mid nov. until 3 dec. and was really hoping to pick one up...
I guess 8.5mill thanks to the price drop of the S, P, U etc.... |

Anything to do with AUO is something to get excited as Sony and AUO are pretty much in a "high level" partnership for mobile screens, LCD panels for Bravia/Vaio, and OLED panels.

Nanoco is a company which produces quantum dot materials. It's no secret that they have been collaborating with a major japanese corporation since 2009 as stated in their website. Are you suggesting that the Crystal LED is actually a nanocrystal technology? in other words quantum dot technology?
check out this post i made from april http://www.avsforum.com/t/1405411/sony-crystal-led-quantum-dot
My take on the bet is 6.9 million units btw. |
