Those Samsung models were MASSIVE! I'm sure they were great, but when I held one in Seoul, I was hardly impressed and that was when they launched the 5MP one, at a time where we were just getting 1.0 and 1.3MP cameras.
The C905 does have the K800 soft-touch back, and now I've played with it I must say I was more impressed than I thought. It's big, but manageable and definitely strong on the imaging front (thanks to a larger CCD sensor).
I still think the C902 is awesome too, because of its size, but the C905 has Wi-Fi and GPS thrown in, and a larger display (but no more pixels, so it doesn't look as crisp as one with a smaller physical size).
Smart Contrast is clever in that it effectively takes three photos and picks the best one. Sure, digital cams have had this bracketing feature for some time (but not all pick the best by themselves). It's certainly yet another way of making it more of a camera than most cameraphones.
I'll upload some pics taken on the phone shortly and you can see for yourself that the images are quite good.

So, is it CCD or not? This phone is beautiful and a nice rebound after the "Flint Flub's" era.(k850, w960,...)Man, Miles Flint released some s**t phones on his watch. So far all the sample photo's look very promising and some look outright spectacular. Hope it is priced reasonably. Will definitely be my next phone.

C905 & N82
C905 & N95 8GB
They compared the size with the N82 but thickness with the N95? Why not compare also thickness with the N82?
. . .
Although the sample shots are of much better quality than from any other CMOS-based camphone on the market today, I doubt that the head of Sony's digicam division will be losing any sleep worrying about shrinking market share. This is not the camera phone that will kill the Point-and-Shoot digical camera market.

Calendar!
* I'm limited in the amount of text I can enter. I cannot seperate the Title from the actual notes of an Event/Appointment/Meeting. Heck I cannot even seperate those like I did above ^ . Their all appointments in the SE system (non smartphone).
* When I enter the beginning & end times on another platform (BB) I get a QUICK total time just below to see how long that appointment is. My previous job this was CRITICAL! I would be scheduled for 8hrs a day and by the 4th hr it was requested that I work OT up to 13hrs max because of current laws. The type of position I had, by law, only allowed for 60hrs/wk. I didn't want to work past that and NOT get paid - they would NOT shift it over to the next week because all employees hours are DOUBLE checked in 2 systems - then billed, so if it didn't match you'd be under the management gun so to speak. I would commonly in that 2.5yrs time work around 55-60hrs for 3wk/mth. Plus school meetings for my kids, volunteering for trips.
* you can see how above would look cluttered on the platform phones! I've used the T39, z500/z600/z520, K750, K790a, K850i and NONE have been improved in this field, NONE! Only the color. Its good but its OLD and when improved the messaging I was appalled that everyone wanted that & NOT include for Calendar to be improved.
Ah yes, I'm not a whole lot into that area, but if the calendar options is the only reason for needing a smartphone, have you tried looking for a JavaME alternative? Or look into something like Mobile Google Calendar? I'm not to say if it could substitute your needs, and it's a matter of taste, but I'd prefer a plain Java phone myself.

this is a lovely phone. who bloody cares if it record in vga or qvga, etc, etc. it dosent mather, the video quality isnt that good anyway. i have not seen ONE cell pphone who have good video recording, (not even Viewty, it looks like shit compared to a real hand cam)
Quite a lot of people care, as you can see in this thread.
And the Nokia N95 + N82 + 6220 Classic records VGA fine and in a good quality.

I am not trying to pour cold water there are just too many points to ponder:-
Even if the 8MP can produce photos as good as the N82, are you going to pay nearly twice the price of N82 to get the C905 when it is released?
The only thing C905 have over the N82 is just the camera. And realistically, I think the jump to 8MP is just not that crucial. And we have no idea how good the 8MP is given all the crap 5MP that SE delivered. For the rest of the other capabilities there is no doubt that N82 is just better incl. gps, video rec, OS, accessories, connectors etc.
It is true, the N82 takes great pictures and it offers VGA video recording. I'm not even impressed with the C905 sample pictures I've seen here. I think they look the usual "painted" like.
But I do think many SE users will get the C905 anyway, despite a higher price, because switching to e.g. Nokia N82 presents a number of other missing features. Sure, VGA recording is nice, but the shitty SMS capabilities and missing volume options in Java games in the N82 is really dragging it down. Sony Ericsson phones have a lot of nice features overall which is missing in Nokia phones in my opinion.
Sadly, since C905 doesn't offer VGA recording and I'm still not impressed by the sample pictures, I'll need to stick with my N82 for a while longer, even though the SMS options and lack of volume options in Java games is annoying me very much. |
