Total contributed per 12th is $830. Plus whatever the Philippines are collecting in the EB meeting in end of December. The banners are of course bringing in some money, but the date when the pay for advertising is not before end of January. So this will not help Esato in the short term.
I'm not sure if it is legal to send cash by postal mail, but I have received donations this way too. It's fine with me, but I'm not sure if it is OK with the postal service.
@fernando
I will consider adding a counter to the homepage. I'll see if I've got some spare time to make one.

I have been thinking of splitting the site in two. Something howardchui has done to his site. But because many visitors using search engines find this site with search keyword like "T68i themes", "free ericsson logos" This rather large page shows how people find this site from Google today. What I am trying to say is that many people find Esato because they search for themes, logos etc. and then finally ends up in the forum.
The issue about increase of sales is not the only reason why should support Esato. I guess it is costing a lot have 24/7 support department up and running. Would you rather send a mail about your Jabra headset/T68i connection problem to or write/read a post here on Esato? support only their own products, while Esato cover a wider range of devices. Your question about decrease in spending could be tuned the other way around. Will see an increase in spending if Esato dies. I would have to say yes. Maybe tot much, but more than it will cost them to support the site.

Your idea about creating a comprehensive FAQ, or a single document holding all the answers is something we moderators has been discussing before. But my experience is that new members don't search before they post. They don't even read the FAQ. You should see the number of emails I receive every day about very simple issues. Many of them could be avoided if people read the FAQ before mailing me. And the job to go through the 15216 topics and categorize these is huge.

I know this is the wrong forum, but as the question about new members came up...
Would it be possible to have some kind of ranking system? Firstly to make sure that you have been posting in other forums a few times (say 5) before you are allowed to initiate a new thread, this would decrease the number of "stupid" threads a bit...
Secondly, if the members would get some ranking, say from Guru to Complete dork (Hulk Hoogan someone ). Then it would be easier to ignore less reliable posters and maybe listen more to those who have something valuable to contribute == less flame wars and fluff.

have you considered changing web hosts? if you pay 4000$ for 3 months on the one you have now you will save a lot on changing |

I don't think the rates at the current hosting company is too expensive. The rate will be much lower the forthcoming next three months. The problem was that I subscribed to a 160GB per month deal in March, but was using nearly 300GB in October and November. I was stuck with the old contract and it's the overusage that stands for the most expenses. They have announced a lower rate for Jan-March, but I will have to change the subscribtion to cover the rise in traffic to a more expensive one. Probably 320GB, which is the next level of subscription.

I've received several type of solution on how Esato can stay alive. Some of them are quite interesting. If I get over the current financial situation, I think Esato will manage fine in the future. Some ideas that have been discussed is to offer the members that have contributed something extra. Maybe some added functionality to the forum: PM from WAP, a P800 version (forum optimized for P800/7650 models), upload of images, VIP avatar etc.

Why is it that you have taken off the access to all the greyscale logos? This isn't very fare... T68/T68i users get to continue browsing... but we can't. Whats the go? Whats fare is fare... both should be taken off.
I am aware you are just trying to get the bandwidth down... but...

Huu? I haven't only taken off the access to the greyscale logos. Both colour and greyscale are down from time to time. It's just a reminder to the ones browsing those parts of Esato that it is time to make a difference.

I found the site by altavista... For a month I only used the site for the logos but then I realised the posts and now I'm an addict... There are some guys in my school who use this site only for the logos...
PS: Sorry I can't donate because Turkey isn't listed in PayPal and I'm only 15... I will try to donate from my pocket money as soon as I find a way to send it... |

It's only a short term solution, but anything helps.
Anybody can support Esato and it won't cost them anything other than a little bit of their time.
In association with Commission Junction eBay are offering $4.50 for every new account created as a result of a lead from a banner. The account won't cost anybody anything, and they don't have to use it.
There are 11020 users on the Esato forums. If only 25% of those users sign up, that's $12397.50
That should short cash flow out! |

I think it's a great idea. I've been meaning to set up an eBay account. I've recently used my friend's account to make 4 transactions, so I think it's a good time to have my own. It would be sweet if Esato could benefit from new eBay account sign-ups.
However, Esato still needs more ca$h for the shot term, before it recieves any proceeds from the eBay campaign.
That means that more users who take advantage of this wonderful free site have to show their support and donate something today!
Keep it going people. Don't let those donations dry up. It's time to step up and support your community.

my gran used to say you can find something positive out of any situation (in fact, she probably still does, i just haven't spoken to her in a while).
it's taken a while, but i've just realised that all the 7210 users have stopped whining on for their own avatar. so gran's right again.
btw, like the snow laffen. only just noticed it!
