Need Help!!

Just updated my P990i from R7A (World Generic 2) to R9E..
The update service ver is 2.6.11.7.
The download process from internet is ok, but when the process of updating the downloaded software to the phone was failed, the progress indicated only 1% then it backed to 0% then back to menu "start" or "exit".
when I disconnected the phone from the cable, its display just blinked white all the time.
When I tried to reupdate again, I always found the error when I go to step "Press C, open the SIM, replace the battery, then connect the phone to cable" ... when I did this, my windows XP SP2 gived a warning that the driver could not be installed, maybe the device is not recognized or there's failure on the device.
It seems that the usb flash driver is not installed during this process. According to the manual, the USB driver would be installed automatically or can be found on folder "c:\\program files\\sony ericsson\\update service\\setup\\drivers\\USB"... but when I could find the folder and windows XP could not found the driver for the p990i.
Anyone encountered the same problem?
Where can I get the usb flash driver?

I could not use the phone now.
When i tried to charge the phone (just in case the battery was empty), it just flashed the white and black display.

Any helps please!

@Se2Mobile;

Its normal to see XP return unrecognised device on connecting the P990i. If you have connected your P990i before then just hold the C button till you are asked to release.

However, if its your case that you have never been connected before between your PC and your P990i, then suggest you go to SE site to download all the necessary drivers

Good luck

@Bytes

Tks for the prompt response.
Before I did the update, the phone can connect to xp without any problem and there's no error messages (a little pop up menu (inline with time icon) when you connect USB devices).

After updating, the problem occurred.
Can anyone refer a website that provide the requested driver? (USB flash driver).

Tks in advance.

I already installed PC Suite with latest version, but the problem still exists.
After reading the update service starting guide manual, it states that there could be a warning/error message "device unrecognized" when pressing the "C" button during updating process and states the warning can be ignored.

I think there could be a problem with the update database downloaded from SE website, could be caused by non complete download or something else that caused problem to my phone.

I already took it to SE Service Center, and they would try to re-update my phone. Hopefully it works this time.

And here I was thinking I was the only one feeling miserable after an upgrade.

Okay, this is weird.

I'm on O2 in the UK. I've been running R4B03 since last week on an unlocked P990i and every day between the hours of about 10am and 6pm, my 3G coverage vanishes!

I've only just started to notice the times that this happens, but it seems to be during office hours.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be O2 or 3 (I assume O2 still use the 3 network for their 3G service) turning it off during peak hours? :-\

I'm hoping it's not a firmware issue...

Can anyone test this for me please. I am getting realy pissed about this RAM thing...

With e.g. 15mb of free ram @ start... I only open two things: My shortcuts and Web application. I surf via Wifi for about 5 mins or so. When i end my memory is 1.5mb. Is this normal?!?

Surfing, you mean you are using Opera. Totally normal, currently Opera is the only application I still get the kern-exec error with. You are lucky if Opera worked without shutting down, the low RAM is definitely caused by Opera. WLAN and Opera both require a rework by SE. The memory requirements of the current version of Opera are definitely not compatible with what the P990 can provide.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

I have honestly updated 10 times to this date with still the same results. How new is this firmware?

I made corrections to my firmware. I accidentally typed it wrong. Could you please take a look at it again? Thank you.

@ares:
Looking at his avatar, he seems to have an M600... P990 and M600 are at the same phone firmware version, but not on the same organizer version.
