I dont buy the story that current phones do that better compared to older ones.
I dont think difference is as big as sites and companies want us to believe.
Mine has lots of corner softness, all Z do.
But if I take close ups of bugs you can clearly see the segmentation of the antenna, that crickets legs have little spikes.
And also dont know where the oil painting story comes from.
None of my photos have it. Not even the ones at 20.7MP.
Only think I would change on my phone was to have manual mode and better HDR.
Backlit scene makes photos ugly, like they were at iso400 when it is iso50.
@hg i think it is suspicious that they get a device at least 2 weeks before its announcement for tests while the device will take about 1 month more to hit stores. No way the software is ready that early.
My theory is that they take few shots, if they dont few satisfied they delay the tests and go to work on another device.

Go see gsmarena's samples, s and note 10 have worse corner softness. And these are taken on auto. See the X1 S10 comparison article and look at the trees especially, S10 has an oil painting effect a lot stronger than X1. I think it was tech spurt's video which X1 had better 5x zoom than S10. I don't think it's a coincidence dxo only used Huawei for this comparison.
X1's weaknesses are hdr and too wide aperture. You can get very similar results even on jpeg with post processing. I wonder how much is it is actually stacking and how much of it is just tweaking. |

The thing that's extremely annoyed me is that the behavior to destroy the detail when take the HDR photo and the detail around any LED. Also there's a lot of noise visible which is not so good for 2019's flagship.

I dont think they use stacking.
Stacking is for still subject only.
Not to work with eye af or predective capture.
Let's say phones from other brands are like A7R3.
While Xperia is the A9.

While Samsung Semicon is selling 64MP and will bring 108MP, Sony Semicon is quiet.
This can impact their sales, many chinese midranges will use 64MP isocell.

Cams look big but the design is unrefined. Looks almost like Z5 with flat panel and raised edges.
(I was talking about phones like pixel that use stacking) the actual output and post processed jpeg are not too different. At least for social use. |

Probably they wont use more than 7 min for Xperia, since they have 45min I think for all their stuff.
Press is next thursday, so if they were indeed going to make a XZ2c body type it would have been leaked already.
My guess is just X2. With 4G and 5G variants.
I think X20 will be just realesed in Japan without any warning.

They've always used more than 20 minutes in IFA to talk about phones (much more than they talked about other devices).

Surprised by the colours, they're nice but I thought there was going to be a copper one and a silver one. Will the 5G Xperia 1 be the same colour? I think the phone is a little fatter than the original. |

People who are good with maths could calculate the size of the device based on the camera sensor, the leaked Xperia actually looks very compact if the sensors are the same as the ones on the Xperia 1. |
