Is this thread about O2-branded phones that aint allowed to use the update or is it about live update for unbranded phones that can use it?

It is for all K700 owners who want to use (or have used) the online update service. o2 and Vodafone users can't use the service, so they have been the most "vocal" ones in this thread.
For those of you in the USA with K700's, I have a way for you to upgrade your phone to R2L001 and fully decustomize it, regardless of the branding (o2 / Vodafone / etc).
PM me for more info (ONLY if you are in the USA)... |

just recieved this from 02......not good news
Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service.
Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused.
The service for getting upgrades to the Sony Ericsson firmware has been discontinued. We are getting customer feedback on this service. If the need arises, we will again continue this service.
However, we cannot confirm the exact date when the service will be reinstated.
I again apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
If you need further information regarding this matter, please reply to this email. For further details about O2, please visit our online Help
Centre at:

Kind regards,

That doesn't look that bad actually - it looks like they have realised their customers want it. We all need to be very proactive and keep on having a go at o2 until they get this sorted because quite frankly it is a disgusting stance they have blocking the service for no apparant reason. Vodafone blocks it but thats not surprising cause they are always a pain in the arse "ooh - don't use them naughty illegal mp3's for ringtones BUY THEM OFF US!!". People use o2 because they dont screw up phones (normally). |

Just FYI, Vodafone K700i seem also now to be able to be upgraded online since yesterday to R2N001.
When will it also work for O2 K700i ???
O2 is the only provider that doesn't allow the use of the online SE update service !! |

Excellent!!! I've just managed to toast my Orange UK K700...
bought a DSS-25 just so i could update the firmware. all's going fine, about 70% through installing the new firmware, then, *bam*, "Error in communicating with device" - my heart stops breifly. Once my ticker's started up again, i pull the battery (as instructed), reseat it & try to switch on... nada, dead as a dead thing. fire up recovery mode, same thing, errors just after it connects to the phone.
If i don't hear some good news from SE, (god knows where my nearest service centre is) i'll end up having it replaced by Orange Care.
my trusty (rusty?) P800 to the rescue though. bloody hell, i'd forgotten how to use the damn thing at first! |

You should be able to repair your phone with a T28 service cable and MultiServer. |

There are a few people claiming that R2N001 is now available to Vodaphone customers. If you are on Vodaphone and have a DSS-20/25 then i'm sure we would all appreciate it if you had another go to see whether it now works.
I have just tried my O2 phone again, with no luck. Just waiting for Total MultiServer to support DSS-20/25
