R2L is still the latest firmware on SE's Online update. R2AE is the latest if you get it upgraded in a service centre / phone shop via EMMA. |

The answer to your question is in the first post! The lists are incremental (ignoring the Vodaphone specific firmwares), e.g. R2AE contains all the features of R2AA and R2Y in addition to the featureset of R2L.
The most noticable improvements of R2AE over R2L are a general improvement in menu speed, no more 900ms+ delay on answering a call and the phonebook quicksearch facility. |

EMMA is the Sony Ericsson server. You need a terminator dongle or DSS-25 Sync Station to update via the SE website.

I have an Orange Branded phone. Will I be able to take my phone to CPW or SE and ask for R2AE033 or will be branding affect it being updated? |

The camera pictures the k700i takes shows static on black images.
Does anyone have the similar problem? |

Im using camera 3.9 on a k500i and when its dark/shutter closed/dim with artificial light, the image does become a little grainy. Oh, btw is there any new firmware (after R2AA003) that can allow me to turn off the shutter noise -.-" its so annoying.

I cant seem to off the shutter sound and searching contacts is still the old way (can't seem to enter multiple letters for faster search). Anyone having similar problems? |

does anyone know of any firmware that allows the k700 speakephone to be turned on when dialing as to what is currently now, ie speaker phone can only be turned on after the call is answered by scrolling through a menu.
cheers

There is currently no way to turn on the speaker before starting the call, but it would be a nice feature.
R2AE is a great firmware and i think everyone should upgrade to it! |

Vodafone are clueless and unable to do bugger all it seems...
Sorry if its been answered before but anyone know how I can unbrand my phone to the latest firmware ie shop or some such around the S.Wales area?

warner,
i tried with the service centers here in bangalore, india. they still have the old R2L and no clue about R2AE!!!
so... i am thinking of doing it by downloading. I want to know whether any danger is there if i do it from my pc.. like all messages or contents getting deleted or camera version not getting updated etc.,?
Also, i am unable to download any file (like themes, videos, java games) which are of 30kb or more. it gives error message- "downloading failed" or "temporary error. contact your internet provider". I checked with the provider and they tell that there may be some problem with the browser. Is it so?? does anyone have this problem? |

There is always some danger when upgrading through a PC, and you do lose your warranty if you do the operation yourself. However, it's not that dangerous as long as you thoroughly research what to do first.
As for content - even when you do a firmware update through a Service Centre they warn you that you may lose content. I have personally never lost any content myself though.
Some services are less reliable than others - e.g. there used to be a problem updting through Total Multiserver whereby the camera version wasn't updated. I am unsure whether they have fixed this problem. It seems that one of the best servies is DaVinci, although I have not used them myself.

The problem with Total Multiserver has been fixed. You must be using the latest version (1.46) to successfully update with the camera driver. Also, anyone using an Athlon 64 processor is advised to use this version, I have tried earlier versions and it causes the computer to restart on execution.
If you do it the Multiserver way you will lose all content on your phone. |
