Would it be possible to get someone else to host the forum? (im guessing that thats the source of most bandwidth loss) One of the members (jamo i think) offered to host the ENTIRE site, but what if he just hosted the forum and you hosted the main page? That way esato would still be the site is today but it would be run by an extra person

Wookee - I certainly agree with getting the message across to as many as possible... but can this not be achieved via a greater prominence on the Home Page? From my experience, you only have 1 (maybe 2) opportunities to email people before they get pissed off & start ignoring discarding anything you send (if its a request for donation type communica) - this is from work we have done with several UK charities. + there are issues of privacy to be considered.

Psykotik - Yes I'd be interested in whats happening re offers of hosting. I can only speculate that Laffen regards this as a last resort, akin to selling the site. Why? Because if someone else hosts, he inevitably loses control and places responsibility in the hands of a (unknown?) 3rd party. I could see why this would be something he wishes to avoid at all costs.

@Laffen

Maybe it's time for an update from you again on the status on donations and the life expectancy of Esato, how much more funding is still needed, does it look like it could be forthcoming etc.

People... I have contacted Ericsson Australia in every way I know how, Email, Letters, Phone Calls... No luck.

I hope we can all make an impact and get them to spare some of their money, god... not as if they have none!

Although I know it would be nice, I don't see why people "EXPECT" SE to start handing out lumps of cash to continue the running of a site which they have nothing to do with, as far as they're concerned, business wise, they will not see a direct increase of sales, or decrease in spendings, by helping out Esato.

Although i do agree, that if they did fund the running, it would hardly scratch their bank balance, they wouldn't notice it was gone, but on the other hand, they are a business and are expected to act like it. They have employees, shareholders and customers that will poke and prod the reasons behind spending £10 on a box of chocolates for the office if they want to.

In short, if anyone is going to continue pestering SE, do a bit of research, find out how they could DIRECTLY profit from this venture. Think up business plans and ideas, sell the idea to them, my company gets at least one communication a week regarding business ventures, which are normally totally in favour of the other company. Yet we turn away companies who, potentially, could make us a very tidy sum.

Although Esato is almost perfect as it is, their is 1 major problem, it is not a business..............yet

I know i dont post often... but i have few suggestions.

Why cant all the t68 logo's, screensavers.... etc just be deleted? This will get rid of most the 'freeloaders' who dont really give a shite about esato.
- i admit that i used to use esato for dld the latter when i first got my t68 but i think most peeps use applications to create thier own stuff these days...... and so should the newbies (sorry..bit harsh.. but we dont live in the stone age anymo!).

Also, why not delete stuff in the forums that is out of date or essentailly the same... how about creating single documents that lists all problems/secrets/current updates/software for each fone and deleting all posts that replicate it.
- newbie's can scan through these documents rather than posting or seaching.

The above two points should certainly reduce the traffic to esato each day.... right?

And about raising funds.... some peeps mentioned donating old phones, others said that its a good idea to have a competition where u could win a p800 (donated by SE???..hmm).

How about putting the two things together..... to enter the competition you simply have to donate some money. winners picked out a hat or summit on the run up to xmas...Whats up for grabs??... used phones that esato members have kindly parted with (no doubt they will all be nokia's).

Im sure this would be much easier to set up than a quiz and if advertised on the main page even the tightest of users would dontate a dollar to win a phone.

.....just my thoughts

p.s. as most peeps are advertinsing the fact that they have donated id like to say that ive not yet made a donation.... due to the fact that ive got £2000ish rent to pay by next week... but ill muster together some cash for certain!

.............or just split the website - host the logo's screensavers etc on a mirror or dedicated esato logo site - then have the forum site seperate - so the traffic will be less 'per section' & be separate rather than under one site - all it takes is a link away from esato to the logo site. This is basically the plan that one of my employees came up with...... seeing as leeches eat bandwidth, use logos and ringtones etc. but generally are not large partakers in the forum, and are not really worth worrying about in terms of scaring away, why not, after splitting the site into two, as stated in the above post, have 1 free forum site, and one, monthly/yearly fee site with all the downloadables, this way over the first few months, it would be possible to have an estimated guess as to, what price would keep the site alive, but would not shun anyone seeking help or advise from the forum site, or those who feel that the content on 'Esatwo.com' (I know poor, but we thought it was funny, and it's available) the logo/tones site was worth a few bucks. You might even turn this site into a profit making organisation (perish the thought)

I am Just writing to say that I have made a $20 donation via paypal, I use this site mainly for logo`s to make my T68 look COOL, and for it to close would be great shame, Also I would never have know about the software upgrade for my T68 if it wasn`t for ESATO and its users. So keep up the good work...

Question:
I am part of an online community based around
ericsson and sony ericsson phones, http://www.esato.com, the forum
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=15283&forum=19&start=0
states that this community is under serious threat due to lack of funding.
I believe it is providing a valuable service to ericsson and sony ericsson
customers, providing support for the products and actively advertising to
non S.E. customers. I believe it would be in the interests of yourselves
and our community if you could offer some support.

Many Thanks
