Stylish Slider? Cool I would think that could work. Just don't let it be that glossy crap on the W980 and T710. |

I don't think clamshells do too well in Europe. The Walkman W980 is high end and also a very nice phone but not popular at all. Its the same case for all the other companies as well so after the Moto V3, people have moved on.
The european clamshell designs are usually so bad that it almost doesn't matter how much specs they have, that goes for W980i too, with it's tiny screen and weird hinge, and IMO chaotic design. The biggest success from Motorola was a stylish clamshell design (V3) with features that wasn't too bad back then. But in general, and now in 2009 specifically, we have yet to see anything remotely similar to Japanese standards in design and screen size when it comes to EU and US clamshells. I don't think it's the western consumers not wanting clamshell phones, we just don't want the pathetic excuses they continue to bring us. Maybe they think we don't know Japan and South Korea exists? I'm starting to wonder.. But I don't want to give up hope we'll see some clamshell phones that are truly high-end with the LARGE screens they actually have room for. If Japan still prefers this form factor, and they are ahead of everyone else, then I hardly think we have moved on from anything that belongs in the past. |

Honestly I think the Japanese clamshells look much worse than phones like W980i and W508. Agreed about the screen format, that's just stupid, but that shouldn't be a crucial point for a mid-high-end feature phone. I think it's just that nobody makes clamshells except SE and the SE ones have a really bad price/feature ratio. |

lately I came along several print mags which had reports on handsets coming out later that year. every single one of them mentioned the Idou. the thing is that its just a concept name, but they all stated it as the actual name. so i don't think it would be wise to "change" it to some number combination. it would totaly ruin the hype which some of these mags created around this phone. |

Actually, for the magazines and tech sites that would mean creating an entirely new article with a sort of "Meet the E1 - the new Idou!" headline, which would actually further sustain the hype. They'd also have to mention the specs, what was revised since the concept days, etc.
Quite a good move on SE's side, me thinks.
Disclaimer: E1 is not actually Idou's model number.

Well uh they could add the 3.5MM jack if they really wanted to and the design will surely get a remake sooner or later. |

So the W518a is just the W508a for AT&T. |

@Breccia, before you post your opinions make sure to have some respect with your co-esatonians. also let me tell you SE is suffering from their uncompetitive under qualitative solutions, this copy paste strategy is the culprit for the massive failure SE is undergoing right now, as well as the lost of faith within its degrading userbase, most of their phones have great looks, thanks to the good R&D budget allocated to it that fuels the designers to get more productive, but god knows how crappy their service is, and add to that their phones with weak, gimmicky build quality. it's another waste of money to produce this, if you think this phone is good then how does it differ from W715, G705 and the other functionally identical models? why not spend the budget in improving/developing idou? where is the very smart SE we knew long ago?
Btw, Sorry for Off-Topic.

Agreed with NightBlade. I think it hypes it up more, but on the contrary they should keep the 'Idou' besides the normal model number. Otherwise some people won't know that it is the same device I think. |

Like "C909 Idou Cyber-shot"? *You know, disclaimer and such*
I got used to "Wxxx Walkman" and "Cxxx Cyber-shot", what hit me lately was the description by themselves "T707 Style". |
