That's because all the other phones you mentioned are of the Media Monster class a.k.a. the descendants of N95. If you think of C905 as a successor of K800 (which it seems so much to be), you'll see it in a different light. I myself think that it has its own market segment, because it obviously doesn't qualify as one of the Media Monsters.
If that's the case, then it's in a market all on it's own. Joe Public doesn't sit there and ponder the market segmentation of phones, they just see the phones that are being advertised together by whatever shop they are in. C905 is up against these boys whether it's a fair fight or not.
@harry
What I'm saying is, every review I've read or watched have all mentioned it is a bit on the chunky side.

Yeah it's actually in a segment of its own, but it also happens to be plunging into a pool of hungry sharks, just like you said. Still, for me it's got a fair balance of functionality, price and looks (I actually like its brickiness, makes it look even more no-nonsense).
Most of the Joes you were referring to will also consider price, especially since in my country, C905's estimated price is almost half of i8510. |

house brick... like what reviews have said those exact words
So hence forward we will sing the song "Brick house" from The Commodores when mentioning the C905!
"It's a BRICK....HOUSE...it's mighty mighty just letting it all hang out...It's a B...

Have anyone noticed that i8510 is even bigger than N96? I've held the N96 and I have to say that it's...too wide, and I have rather large hands. This is not off-topic, just to give an idea of the sizes of the other brands' own bricks. |

In most European countries the phone will be on contract, and the monthly costs would be pretty much the same for all devices. Not many people buy phones sim-free in the UK especially.

In my country all mobile phones are sold SIM-free/without contract, except for some business solutions like BlackBerry Bold 9000. Perhaps this is why the C905 will have a cheaper price here than on European countries. |

Well here in Sweden i would guess it's about 50/50. A lot of people buys it without any contracts.

My SIM card lives each month on a mere USD 10 monthly credit FYI |

At the moment I only pay £15 a month, as I am one of those rare people in the UK that paid full whack for the phone.
But back to my original point, that in my country, with the availability of these phones on contract at similar prices it's going to be a tough choice.

But then I have to truly ask myself, do I really want the C905? When you look at the other 8MP camera phones being announced, the i8510, Pixon and Renoir, the C905 looks almost stoneage in some of its specs.
None of those phones appeal to me, 2 of them have no xenon, and I don't care for touch screens, I have no idea what specs you speak of because the C905 has everything I want in a phone. |

That's great but I was talking about my taste and not yours.
As for specs just read some reviews about the Video Capture Quality, DivX support etc.

That's true for you and many other people, but some people dont need/want xenon flash and some people may want wm/symbian.
