Hi all,
Sorry but i really can't believe 3 units at a show would all have dead batteries but what's even worse is that they had 3 units for demo and none were working. I really don't see how anyone can put any positive spin on this as really it's beyond belief.
Blaming WM6.1 is just absurd when there are already devices launched running it so logically that can't be the cause can it? It's also highly unlikely it's down to HTC either as they already have WM6.1 devices released and running. So what does that leave well only SE and their software Panels and what ever other customisations they are trying to implement.
Marc

@ WhyBe, have you been a fan of SE's phones for a while?... I would like to think that they'd get their act together too before launching this phone, however given their track record with both their smart phone offerings and dumbphone offerings as of late, I highly doubt it... Then if you take into account that they decided to go with a new OS that's totally different from the one they usually use (UIQ), that they also happen to be totally unfamiliar with in addition to their existing track record with there own OS of choice. Sounds like a recipe for disaster imo... |

I've only owned one SE phone. That's p910. No fanboy of any company.
Consider my reasoning for this so-called "engadget problem" (if that's what you are asking me about) giving SE benefit of the doubt. I know no technical details of the problem. Just find it odd, that all of a sudden, a few weeks before release, that X1's are suddenly self-destructing
I know "news" outlets have to sometimes create sensationalized controversy over nothing to maintain or increase their audience. However, if there actually IS a X1/WM problem, certainly a problem of this nature and magnitude would have been detected alot sooner than a few weeks before release.
BengalBoy hasn't reported any such problems with his X1 (it's been his main phone for awhile), and this guy doesn't seem to have any problems either.
My big question is how much customization to WM6.1 has SE done ? ...that would cause such a problem. Or is SE just waiting for WM7 since the X1 has 256MB ? |

That's what I would ask too...

Well i dont see any big deal that 3 x1i phones wer spoilt or their batteries dead. When sony was showcasing their ps3's, alot of them got spoilt due to overheating, however, the final version of ps3 is very stable and has extremely low failure rate.
Also, x1i is definitely the first wm phone for se, but its never the last. They will not abandon their work(investments, etc.) with wm for just a single phone. Well it could also mean its last 6.1 phone and the next phone might be wm7!

If the xperia was launched when it was announced, it would have been a revolutionary device. But since then, 3/4 of a year, a lot of changes have taken place, and it nothing more than a bog standard touchscreen device. It runs WINMOB6, which is nothing special, and the panes are just a gimic. |

It should be like that.. Prototypes are meant to contain bugs . And those bugs need to get found and fixed before the final product is out...

This is old news. Somebody is trying to make believe it just came out.
That screen is been there for a LONG time it was screen page designed at the begining of the year with proyections for different releases. The art was not updated ever for any of the phones listed there. In fact is been several times in different forums. When you click on it (in the real site) it says soon to be release. |

I'm still waiting for the X1, no matter when it will come out. Samsung's Omnia is the only acceptable alternative to this phone (Touch Pro is like a brick...), but that doesn't have the (W)VGA screen and the qwerty.
If WM6.1 won't be perfect, we will still have the opportunity to replace it with Android |

So many disappointing news about the X1 being delayed again lately (and it being the last SE device (before they split), which seems to imply a possible lack of support after that). Hope it all ain't true... |

Just got off the phone to CPW direct sales, and contract sales. (UK). I appreciate that this is probably not the best source of solid release date info.
But.
They are now saying that they have been told by SE that the X1 will not be out till November time. "Before Christmas" were their exact words.
About two weeks ago they indicated it would be fairly soon, so it may be possibly viewed as a delay.
Unfortunatley, for me, they are not even listing the HTC Touch Pro, so i will still have to wait it out.
