@MNX
Only the 4K Bravia comes with the XBR moniker now. No 1080p XBR anymore |

@randomuser That's fine, it's only about $3.5k, cheaper than my XBR when I bought it. Also, time to adopt some 4k tech!

My W8 has no triluminous display..... maybe the new W8 ? Anyway, Bravia with Triluminous display is expensive. But, even without triluminous display, the W8 has beautiful colour. Recently I watched Chennai express (maybe those from India know this movie) and the colour is so beautiful. I don't know, is it because of the movie or the bravia.
sorry for off topic.

the new Sony x900 4K triluminos tv? This is why we also need 4K video recording in Z1. Future proofing! |

from what i understand, 4K recording is supported by the S800, right? or is it just 4k playback? i'm not sure. if its the former, it seems like it's just a software enablement issue which might come with future updates. keep your fingers crossed.
wasn't there a video of the Z1 playing 4K video with the note 3 (which pathetically lagged in comparison)?

Yes it is. But for unknown reason Sony don't want Z1 to have 4K recording. After seeing the quality of 4K video taken with Note 3, I've changed my mind. 4K video recording is awesome and it's a must. The 1080p looks average on 1080p screen, but the 4K looks just fantastic on 1080p screen.
Sample 4K video here(better download on PC as it lags terribly on YouTube...): http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_3-review-996p9.php |

4K video can't truly be appreciated without a 4K resolution display. my stupid 4 year old macbook doesn't have sufficient resolution for it
i was thinking, perhaps the reason why sony hasn't included 4K recording in the Z1 is because of heat dissipation issues? the phone does get hot with constant camera use. maybe doing 4K would cause too much heat for the build of the Z1 so Sony chose to leave it out rather than deal with overheating complaints?
just a theory.. for the record, i personally have not experienced any overheating errors or resets/restarts.

The 4K video from the note looks amazing, I have a full hd screen and while 1080 looks good, this 4k looks amazing, like real life, pixels? what pixels XD |

W802 is like the last (maybe) tv with full array local dimming. It give the best black level in LED LCD when it was released. It used to be only in those super high end $4000 tv set before. I was considered getting one before but didnt have the money. The W900 doesn't have black as good as the W802, while still decent it triluminos tech give it a much better color and best white. Those Sony tv are also best for gaming because of the amazing low input lag. X900 should be future proof because it got 4k, triluminos and future firmware update for HDMI 2.0 support. I think its 3500 USD. |

it just looks like the camera software isnt complete at all for the Z1, like the guy from neogaf has suggested, I trust him because he was right many times. Seriously Kaz Hirai should step in and get their internal groups working together. Wont be a one sony phone when their own engineers can even work together. Z1 lacks many software option that a standard camera should have. People are saying even the Z has better software and image compression for what the Z camera can do. 4K vid is only possible on the S800 version of note 3. The video that shows 4K video lagging on the note 3 was the exynos version of note 3. yes, I think 4K recording needs to come to Z1, too bad of the lack of H 265 encoding, the file size is going to be huge, but thankfully for SD card support. C6903 support H265 playback, maybe there is hope with atleast one of the Z1 model. |

In theory You are right. But practice shows that manufactuers offer average 1080p video, so going 4K and resizing to 1080p is something that increases quality. Just like in camera, we don't have a very nice 8MP camera, but when we go 41MP and resize to 8MP it gives a very high quality image.
Just looks here, same phone (Note 3), I took screenshot from video player, the difference is huge.

Actually that's pretty possible. As Z1 is waterproof, it might get overheated easly.

^oh i wasn't saying there wasn't a difference. clearly there is. but my resolution on my macbook isn't even 1080p! and it's kinda laggy too. so i was seeing blur when i was looking at the 4k video hah. but i understand downsampling the 4k to 1080p will result in great pictures.
it would be a great edition to the camera features and i welcome it! even if it's limited to 10 minutes of recording or something to ensure that the phone doesn't overheat.
