Yea the X10 is definately drowning in a sea of Android 2.1 handsets. Whenever VZW decides to launch the HTC Incredible, the X10 no longer has the technological advantage and trails in other categories such as RAM or touch screen sensitivity or build quality (plastic front!?!). It definately has more style and a better design except for that drop dead sexy HTC EVO 4G.

@myninja
Surely the key advantage of the Evo 4G/Supersonic would be it's 4G capability and you need to be in a market like the US where this is available or at least coming fairly soon for it to be worthwhile?. When is Europe, or the UK going to get 4G? I really have been a fan of HTC since a friend of mine got the first touch, they just seem a bit boxy to me now. Otherwise they are a bit like LG are to the AV Market for me, putting the best bits of other's tec in their kit and keeping them honest.
Sealover did occasionally raise what could have been some decent points, he just did it in such an infantile way and without really backing up his statements that I think most of us got a bit peeved with him.
There can be little doubt that he market the X10 is actually joining is a much tougher one than the one at it's announcement, however I still feel that it offers the best blend of features, UI and usability. Whilst GSMA say the HTC EVO will get an 8ish MP camera, the Cam UI of the last few SE handsets with hard keys and the Cybershot feel if not the branding they have had, has been enough to set them apart from me. It's a bit similar to the iPhone really, the X10 will be more than the sum of it's parts, so whilst there will be handsets in the near future that will match or better it on paper, I believe it will still have an edge. |

It's not difficult to find handsets that, while they have very similar specs on paper, give quite different experiences in real life use.

The problems with the keyboard: I am not surprised about this I am a long time advocate of resistive screens rather than capacitive screens, I am told time and time again I am wrong BUT I have used every single member of the p*series since day one with few miss hits.
I have now tried out THREE Android handsets with Capacitive screens G1 G2 and Nexus and ALL of them give errors on a regular basis it is a problem with the technology its self NOT the X10 Capacitive screens are simply NOT as accurate as Resistive screens and anyone expecting the accuracy they have had with resistive screens is in for a shock.
I don't think you're wrong as such but I do think you're misunderstanding the issue slightly - the capacative screens you're talking about are all geared towards full finger touch interfaces, not pen input, so are designed for larger implements and bigger gestures with multitouch etc. So no, by definition they are not as accurate and precise as the resistive screens you're comparing them too, but if they were they simply wouldn't work as well.
As far as the keyboard goes, it's a simple fact that Android's attempt copies the iPhone's keyboard implementation, but lacks much of the latter's refinement. The iPhone's keyboard has featured multitouch from the outset, which makes much faster and more fluid typing possible, and it also has very effective error-correction software, which means all the inevitable typos get corrected at speed, usually before you realise you've made them. It's custom designed for fast, almost carefree input, and is a thing of beauty - I've similarly used a succession of P-series phones and other handsets with "real" keyboards, and I'm faster and have to self-correct less on the iPhone than with any of them. If the Android phones you've tried haven't been so useable, it's not because there's anything inherently wrong with capacitive screens - it's simply that Google haven't perfected their software yet, or are perhaps stimied by the various Apple patents on the technology they're trying to ape.
Sorry but I have to take you to task here I think my statement " it is a problem with the technology its self" proves I fully understand the issues!
This was not a statement made on the basis of a whim! I have thoroughly checked this out on four different Android devices G1 G2 Nexus and I forgot to mention the T-Mobile Pulse as I thought it might just be a serious individual handset issue. I now know it is a problem common to ALL the android handsets I tried out the fact they all had capacitive screens is an additional commonality.
The fact remains these devices will give continue to give errors until the underlying technology issues be it physical or virtual are resolved.
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot. |

It's here at last! One week before Q2. I think someone needs to settle a debt.
