@Gowin,

Try refreshing, if it doesn't work, open the cache file from your notepad and try to find anything unusual, such as an 'OK'. I've no other ideal.

@Inferis,

Thanks for your debug log, i can confirm that R380's phonebook is not supported by FMA. Sorry

@Grubman,

Sorry i have no idea what does 'error writing dcb' means, i've never see that before.

@bpendleton,

The key is the serial i/o library that i use does not support high com, and it takes too much effort to change it.

@takkyhide, and all,

Yes, i know it's been more than a month, and i just couldn't find time to work on it at all. Thus i'm seriously considering the request from an india firm about co-developing it. They have the resources and dedication to improve it (so that FMA won't die in my own hand). However the draw back is, it will no longer be free.

I want some input from the fellow users about this.

Hi

I have downloaded the floAT's mobile agent software today and wanted to say that so far it looks fantastic. Sent and inbox messages have syncronised perfectly. If I create a new message to send via the software then the message is sent but message appears in the archive folder and not in the 'sent message box' as expected! hence this is not reflected on the phone. The message does NOT appear in the 'sent messages box' and there is no archive folder on the phone.

Finally could you explain about the 'script option' as I am not a programmer the 'file location' is empty within the software, I am using Windows XP Professional.

Thanks in advance for your assistance on this matter.

Regards
Robert.

@Float:
Thanks once again for a nice software.
I just wanted to say to you that if you make us pay for FMA, a little bit of the concept behind it would die. Wasnt it supposed to be a free option to the people who didnt like or couldnt use the sonyericsson software. cant u just put in some banners on your site or something?

@T_Virus,

I agree, but that is not my call. My objective is to have a nice program with all the feature that i want, but i do not have the resource to do that. The company who could allocate resource for that will want it to generate income for the company.

Heres the 2 path:

1. let me keep development it myself, slow updates and probably won't finish to my own expectation (especially when P800 is just around the corner )

2. let a company develop it, they have the resources to do it better then i do, and they (inculding me) will make some money out of it. If you feel the improvement is worst while, then pay for it

There is a 3rd path:

Release the source to the public under GNU, hoping someone will co-develop it. Personally this option is not favourable unless i see a lot of intrest in co-developing it.

Personally, I don't mind forking out a little to use FMA. It is a great program and a lot of effort has been put into it. So, as long as the price quoted is reasonable, I don't see any harm in paying for such a wonderful piece of software.

But what I DO mind is ads/spyware, out making your life miserable and suckering on your precious bandwidth! Whatever you do floAt, please keep FMA ads/spyware free.

i understand your concerns about the development of the FMA app.

if you really want to keep it free, and continue working on the program, and let others contribute to its development then maybe the 3rd option is the best way. probably release it under GNU GPL (that keeps the code away from commercial development. of course there are other licensing options available to you, or you can even make one of your own )

i really hope you you put it out under GNU GPL

If you post some information about Mobile Agent, like what language is it written in. Any special software needed to compile it etc. Peoble interested in helping you co-develop Mobile Agent could send you a little resume. Then you can pick out some candidates.

Ideally a small closed group could continue to co-develop Mobile Agent and keep it free.

You can make the developers sign an agreement that the code from Mobile Agent remains your property and must not be sold or used in any other context without your consent.

Then the team sets up a closed CVS server somewhere to host the souce. Each member can consentrate on developing one feature and resubmit into the code three for your approval and subsequent release to the public.

I understand your problem. I must say that i proboply was on of the first persons to use FMA (I think). And the things that PananzaMan is saying sounds very smart. Your should really think about that.
But I am of course willing to pay a small amount of money to use FMA. I actually use it all the day.

Thanks for the answer to the serial question. Going with the discussion on what to do with FMA, I also recommend a GPL or another open-source approach. It lets those of us out there who would like to fix it (like me, with the serial port problem) have the ability to do so, and it also keeps it free, which means more people can use it. In my experience, for small projects, the difference between free distribution and pay can be 100x -1000x (as in, "free" means you might have 1000s of times more users).

Just my $0.02.

Your software is great and that everyone agrees on
I think FMA has reached a certain stage in its maturity cycle that forces you to have to choose one of the three paths to take. It's only natural and a strong indicator of the great success of your program.

I think part of what made FMA so successful and so popular is the contribution of the Esato community to its development. Many a time people would suggest/request a feature and you would so kindly develop it into your next release. This encouraged people to contribute even more. The fact that we could all easily connect with the developer of such a great product [YOU] and the fact that you actually listened and met our needs is something we all appreciate. I think this is what makes FMA stand out from other software, especially SE software - because of the direct access we have to you and because you listen.

In the end, although many FMA users contributed (in ideas) to the development of FMA, you are still the muscle behind it all. You created the idea and you kept developing it. It is, therefore, your absolute right to take whatever path you choose at this stage. It makes good business sense for you to go with the Indian firm. It's time you had some monetary gain for your efforts, this in addition to the fame you now have on Esato

I for one can tell you that I will be one of the first people that will be willing to pay to use FMA. As a programmer, however, I believe GNU GPL would be the best bet for you and for us. That way, you get to keep it free but still hold the source and we get to still use it for free.

Whatever you do, keep connecting with the Esato community, that's the essence of the spirit of FMA (you even dedicated a menu item to Esato!)

Keep up the excellent work.

Hi!

@ Float

You said FMA is not supported with R380, but some features are. Reading/edit Simcard, Send/retrieve SMS while connected.

@All

Is there another program that works with R380?
All I want is a program that can read my phones adressbok and read SMS stored in my phone. R380 cant store SMS on SIM.

@FloAT

I guess quite a lot has already been said.

We all live in a "finance" world. And success can be described differently to any of us. For some more users mean more success others more money is success. (for Bill it is all different).

I would like to keep thing as free as possible but your time is limited and not free. If you would like to share the project with us I would like to be a part of it. The unfortunate thing is I design the software but not program it so may be less useful in this particular project. But there are lost of other issues multi language and testing that I can help. Let's see who is interested in. So GNU may be a way to go and I also agree on a close group approach to continue to develop the current version.

On the other hand FMA is a brilliant idea and if you can make money out of it this is your decision to make if they can offer you what you expect and that satisfies you. I would pay some depending on the futures and the price without thinking. I don’t mind paying you some for shareware too if you decide that you may be more interested in the project if there are financial benefits . But just keep a freeware version, may be less functional….

I have for others posted your home page link on some other friend who was asking about it. But we need to tell more people.

What ever your decision FMA is your baby and we all love her. (may be him but her fits better)
