Interesting ramu.
I guess, with the 32gb and docomo subsidies, it may balance things a little bit.
Or the good news is that i may be able to go AU!
Anyways what actual difference does a locked bootloader makes, it can be unlocked cannot it?

Why is Sony doing this?? Releasing their new top imaging device with said BIONZ imaging processing and now someone says the new imaging software is not going to be updated till a month or two down the line?? Jesus come on seriously Sony not good enough

@Bono.. it's just not finalized, but it is plenty good right now. it will just get even better. What sony is doing is no different than any other manufacturer who release less than perfect devices, only to send out an update a month or two after launch. Samsung and Apple both do it.

I already mentioned this several pages back - and don't dismiss 60fps and 4k video either |

With G-lens coupled with BIONZ...there should be a WOW factor already even if it was on early firmware. Sony should make it right by now.
Just say its shame for Lumia 1020, that Z1 being Smaller sensor is really kicking it and coming close to it in some areas
Z1 is still without
OIS
XENON
LARGER SENSOR
but it is proving better and better
And Last 3 photos from xperiablog having firmware .518 were shot with ISO800
and rest were shot at ISO 50 or ISO 64
BUT i am really impressed by sample photos really sony made it this time
A lot of phones come close to the 1020 in certain conditions, its overall flexibility and range of effectiveness where the 1020 is superior.
As far as the low ISO values, I find that very interesting as they are exactly the same as the 808.. |

I wasn't dismissing 60fps I was saying 4K video is not much use on a 1080p screen. @moogoo to me it's not acceptable to release a product to the public unfinished. You advertise something as having BIONZ image processing etc yet it actually doesn't work till 1 to 2 months from now?? I've not heard Samsung do that. I know all phones have software issues but explain to me why Sony cannot release their said software as advertised which they have had for years?? You don't release a car with half it's engine capacity that they advertise do you?? Sony have had ages to work on this.

no one said bionz isn't working, it's just hasn't been tweaked to perfection. in all the sample photos i've seen, it seems to be working quite well in 8mp mode. it needs some tweaking in 20mp mode as pointed out by razec.
ages to work on it? come on now.. this sensor was built and designed specifically for the Z1. at most they've been working on it for a year, but I would guess less than a year. as I said, the images are quite amazing already and just need final tweaking to make it even better.
i'm not sure what you're complaining about. Everything advertised is there and working. Just as a car can be tuned to increase its performance, Sony is doing the same to the Z1.

You would have to check the high ISO(800 and above) samples to appreciate the Z1's camera performance. it's surpassing my expectations to be honest. I never really expected a less degraded photos from such a minuscule sensor at that ISO level. it does show alot of noise, but the image is still usable for some average sized prints
20MP + HTT On would surely be interesting I hope the reviewers would shoot in this mode as well, if all is well this could be the ultimate night shot feature ever implemented on a mobile device

yah i'm interested in seeing HTT in action as well!
from what it sounds like, it's kinda like HDR on steroids?

HTT = handheld twilight mode, heralded as early as 2007/2008 by Sony T70 (I don't exactly recall the date, and I'm too lazy to google ) this works by using the camera's native high speed burst shooting (which in this case is available in Z1 as the bleeding fast timeshift burst 60fps/2seconds) and taking at least 6 high ISO photos in quick succession and micro stitching/aligning them as a combined single image. since Noise comes out randomly the details lost on a single frame can be possibly recovered by the next frame, so the 6 photos will combine to recover the missing details while maintaining good exposure and fast shutter speed. which is why it has "handheld" in its name given that Z1 can burst more frames than possible I hope they would do at least twice the frame count of the typical HHT shot so it can perform much better in maintaining details.
if Z1's implementation is as good as the cybershot cameras' an ISO 1000 20mp image with HHT enabled would yield similar quality to its typical performance at low ISO this is the main reason I was really keen over Z1's camera at the first place

I was searching for a video like this but I need to hear it live:/ or read some serious opinion
Still it sounds good, a bit lower than I expected...
I would also love to see the Notification Led in a video...!! |

@Bono
As you can see, the images are already good thanks to the solid imaging hardware. After the software upgrade the software processing will catch up with the hardware and provide even better results.
BIONZ still works, just that it will work even better. |
