Exactly. Knowing SE X10 will not get Android 2.0. |

its capacitive, and the screen controller can detect i think 3 inputs at once, so just cuz its A1.6 i think its not in the API, its not hardware. no compass is also very irksome ... which is to say its very simple to make, why leave it out!?
seal, ive stepped over into your camp as far as this screen is concerned, i dont think its 65K i cant agree with you there, theres absolutely no banding, and the blues (which there are a lot of) do not have steps fading to lighter hues. HOWEVER the backlighting/color temp/contrast are all f**ked, i dont know whos in charge of QC but they need to replace that screen ASAP. its underwhelming to know that satio has 16M while this highend device has a several bit level depth disadvantage. |

65,536 colors. It's a joke! Capacitive screen but no multitouch, what's the point then? They could have chosen resistive if that's the case, at least then you could use a stylus.
Already old OS platform by launch, 5 months away, no compass. I think I will stick with Satio. |

I love but come on!
Marketing and developers can't agree what is the color depth. They announce the phone but can't really announce whether it has going to have multitouch and Android 2.0 upgrade in the future. I don't care any of those, because I know this is going to be a great phone but this phone definetely was not ready for an announcement. Without clearing those things, releasing a phone creates a lot of controvertial comments and rumors which in the end do harm to the product and the company. Trying to built up an interest before the release is a good move but not clearing everything does harm as we all saw in this very thread. I'm dissapointed because of that.
I hope HTC won't release a phone which has similar design and power before X10's release.

What? Android 1.6 is old OS? Are you OK? Maybe Satio's S60 5th edition is the newest OS in the world with its 2+ years!

the phone needed to be announced, or the internet would have run away with itself again, IE the fake brochure, the ONLY thing that shouldnt have been shown was media/timescape (and the poor contrast/depth of the screen) other than that the phone was AMAZING, i mean really good ideas.
compass + screen quality are my concerns now, i hope that they straighten this out before MWC!
multitouch again is capable through the hardware, but NOT android 1.6 its not SE on that one, esp if you can upgrade to 2.0, and then itll be integrated with whatever default apps have the api for MT. |

I don`t care what are the number of colors, because when I use a phone, I don`t compare it with other. My X1 has 65k colors, so what? It`s enough for everyday use and for the screen with that size. I don`t watch movies on my phone, because I have TV for that, I use browser often but for me multitouch isn`t important because I read something when I`m not at the PC, and not playing with the zoom... it`s far more important for me the device to work fast, in front of having moultitouch or 16 million colors, witch it can`t show because of it`s size. So I wonder are you guys so disappointed, because you want to by a toy for playing all day long, or by the phone for using it?
I`m in love with X10, and I`ll have it, because I like the phone. It`s a simple as that. If I don`t like it, I`ll find another, and not complaining for this and that. |

I agree with You for most of what You've said except for the compass. I don't really need it, but the screen has to be better than 65k ( jesus christ). On the other hand with all of the sony ericsson phones I had only one disappointed me in the screen and that is the w960. Firstly I was disappointed by the touch part and secondly after the colors. I think the 65k will only be in these prototype phones the are now showing off. I think they'll put better screens later and I trust that Eclair will be available for X10. |

I have been using android on the htc magic/Tmobile my touch 3g running 1.5 and now 1.6 since early july and ive hacked it every which way imaginable. What makes android so powerful is its fully customizable and it multitasks like no other phone. I was once a very loyal Sony Ericsson costumer that got fed up with the progressively uninspiring phones that they were releasing. So i went to htc who in my opinion was releasing better and more appealing phones at the time, i also left after i realized that UIQ was being abandoned my SE. The X10 is the first phone since the w960i/P1i that i would consider drool worthy made by SE. Ladies and gentlemen SE looks to me like it is attempting to make its come back and im applauding them. The X10 has at the moment the most powerful processor of any android phone, it has a 4inch screen( regardless of color, im willing to bet that this is more a limitation of android than something se did), a 3 1/2 headset jack which took htc 3 tries to get right, an 8 meg camera with flash which htc still hasnt gotten right. Now i know some people are peeved that its not shipping with android 2.0 but lets remember that htc googles #1 partner is still working off of android 1.5 on all thier phones with a custom ui and i can tell you that every other android phone maker has provided upgrades when they are available so it would be silly to think that sony ericsson would not be willing to do this as well. What the X10 has to offer is at this point the best spec'ed android phone coming up, and thats before its hacked an played with. The X10 has the horsepower to really show off what android is capable of, now lets hope they release it early and at a reasonable price(600$-800$) so they can keep that momentum going for them. I had given thought to the acer liquid but it looks like me and several of my other friends using android will be turning to sony ericsson. It will be good to be back. |

We do like the phone.. and possibly we will buy one ! But this phone will cost over 600 euros... so we have to think-look-discuss everything that has to do with it especially about the things that seem not ok to us.... like the screen! If you don't watch movies/clips ... if you think multitouch is only for browsing intenet... and if you dont use it like a toy too (play games) then may be you don't need the 1ghz cpu as we do... You can get the speed you that you want with a less expensive phone! My first touchscreen phone was p800 6.5 years before .. whats yours ????So please...

Yes, I don't need compass because I keep one in my left pocket, I don't need GPS because I have it in my car, I don't need 3G because I have a PC, I don't need camera because I have a SLR. Hell, I don't need the phone either because there are telephone boots all over the place.
