@litoni
I did propose a solution:
1. answer consumers complaints and search for design materials that are make the device more resistant against cracking, shattering, detaching and/or consider making active variant.
2. keep an ip rating that does not interfere with other things but still give resistance to liquids.
3. find other exclusive feature or features, be it a more sturdy and heat friendly design or best front speakers in mobile or both.
4. invest in what consumer do more with a mobile device.
my solution should best fit the majority of global consumers, not for a minority and not for myself, whether you live in asia or north america, based on what most do with a mobile phone and complaints, while still giving a basic ip feature that some may still highly demand. best imperfect solution afaic. no solution is perfect, not everyone can be pleased, as we agree.
i understand that it is hard to make changes and maybe in current situation it might be easier for sony to make such change in only a year or two, but since they are kind of rebooting the flag, ideally it fits in that regard.
i don't see how introducing a lower ip rating is similar to removing a feature because some of it is still there and you get a better more usable feature/features in return. you give little back but you get more in return.
from my understanding, ip68 affects speakers, mic and internal heat. most consumers use front speakers for: playing games, watching youtube, listening to music, etc. more then wanting to be able to wash the device under water or such. moreover, forgetting to properly close the flap can easily result in a device turning into a brick and there are consumers who claim that all flaps were closed and still the device stopped working after putting it in water. ip68 is far from perfect.
i agree with you that my solution might not be an easy change to make but they can transition into it and not necessarily from next year. they need to consider it.
i agree with you about the design, as with anything, not all can be pleased, but they can target the most, better then what they are doing now afaic.

My sincere apologies, got a little carried away in the morning.
One thing about the industry is that no one cares about Sony. If Apple and Samsung were to make the “IP rating” a trend, everybody else will think it is a mandatory feature to have. So basically Sony doesn’t have any influential in the industry to persuade new buyers, and instead, it focuses on developing a positive connection with its current buyers and loyal fans. Features can only be “added” on and not be “removed.” As mentioned before, if Sony is as big as Samsung and Apple, Sony can pull off a “no SD card slot, no IP rating” thing and force its customers to still buy its products.
look at GS6's sales compare to GS4 and GS5. it's easy to see what happens when you take away features. especially those marketing were pretty hard on
I dont think you understand S6 sales.
They weren't actually bad.
It still sold better than previous phones.
All that happend is they underestimated how popular the S6 Edge will be, meaning they had shortages and overestimated how popular the normal s6 would be resulting in surplus s6 stock. Ultimately they took a gamble with the S6 Edge and because of that they lowered expectations and the result is that it exceeded their expectations in sales. |

For me, I would say keep the IP rating, but increase the thickness a little bit and add better speakers, camera/lens & battery... having increasing thickness will also mean more rigid phone, and easier designing without flaws in design ( like some manufacturing issues that happened to compact : loosed glue/screen )
I know 6.8mm looks sexier, but 7.8 or 8mm with those features looks even more...

Interesting confirmations from digi-wo: "finger print scanner is on the side but also the front screen logo and nfc logo. non silver colored. already in mass production but not yet in mass production assembly".

one source noted a few months ago that front sony logo will move to the side. this info reconfirms it.

The Sony logo is not silver color. It is another color(the forumer did not state which color), and same color as the NFC logo. |

C5 Ultra info and a photo
http://www.xperiablog.net/201[....]ippets-of-user-guide-unveiled/
Liking that bezel, if the C5 ultra came with a snapdragon cpu and a 21mp cam, it would be a nice looking phone.
Just noticed the rear cam is in the center, wonder if this will be also a feature on the z5.
second edit, screen has 5 icons across it and not 4 like on the current C4 and even Z4. I feel the C5 ultra will be a 6 inch device.

without visiting the link, I thought you meant cam is right at the centre of both horizontal and vertical axis of the phone... |

I believe the metallic part is silver, thats why logos are not sişver colored. I may be wrong ofcourse. |

i like the bezel-less sides. finally something different then ob. i'm sure they could avoid the asymmetric top and bottom if they increased the thickness of the device. nice change overall. also, 2 speakers in a mid ranger.
Sony Xperia Z5 with 5.5 inch display, 3GB RAM Coming in September: http://www.mobipicker.com/son[....]y-3gb-ram-coming-in-september/
5.5" is acceptable but only 3 gb of ram? not appropriate for 2h of 2015. take with a grain of salt...
EDIT: most likely fake info or inaccurate. randomuser mentioned it will have 4gb of ram as well as other sources: "Z5 will release this year, but with S810 or S810v2 whatever you want to call it. RAM bumped up to 4GB."
