 | Speaking of new phones Gizchina reports a new phone in UAPROF 81** with 4k 18:9 display.. I think sony won't look back now.. 18:9 is the future.. I won't be surprised if movies too will be shot in this ratio only in the near future.. *sighs* |

 | Phonearena loves XZ2 so much, still waiting for the full review, though.

 @spektykles
Would've been better if there's that arc design and if the two cameras have a separate ring.

 | madmiraj - 18:9 ratio may be the future for mobile phones but movies are not going to start filming at that ratio.. why? because directors would never do that and ruin their artistic vision. how can i be so sure? because movies aren't filmed to fit on TVs and people watch movies on TV a whole lot more than on their mobile phones.
@spetykles - looks interesting. only thing i don't really like is the shine indicating the new ambient flow design may be here to stay.. even on premium. i just don't love it...

I don't know actually.. But it was just my guess, considering we were all thinking sony would not adopt that ratio because of columbia pictures, which happen to make movies.. But as Sony took the decision, I thought there would be a shift in that direction regarding tvs and films too.

As for the picture given by @spetykles,I hoped for something like that only except my imagination had the camera in a different position with a different alignment..

I'm digging the single ring around both cameras and everything being aligned creating equilibrium/ balance

My wild gues is if they do put the heaphone/3.5 jack back it would be at the top centre aligned with the camera, led, sensors and finger print scanner

However, cinemas are using a different aspect ratio. More like 4096 x 2160

 | Cellphones became 16:9 because TVs moved from 4:3 to 16:9. Most of content is made for TV.

I wish Sony did to XZ2 the same to XA2.
They could easily switch to 5.5" and keep size.

Sadly there wont be any 16:9 phone in 2019. There is nowhere to run.

The headphone jack story was a business thing. Mobile team was told wireless was selling more than wired last year.
But the 18:9 is just a choice, dumb one..

 | actually damn 18:9 screen ratio is totally frustrate me, but how can I keep resist the change?
wider screen ratio is not new, see it way back couple years ago when 21:9 pc monitors was introduced

until today only limited content and video format produce to supports wider screen ratio, mostly still 16:9

16:9 video in new wider ratio with black bar aside unless zoom in and cripple some image... what a damn well move?

 | 16:9 It is the most versatile aspect ratio. The 18: 9 format is only used in Netflix and some TV series.
The manufacturers started using 18: 9 just for bezeless design, just for that.
The film and television industry will continue with the standardized aspects, for the simple reason that they work better.

 | I don't know, only excuses at this time probably egg or chicken come first
I mean do we need device to make use of wider ratio display and content will follow, like that?

but the argument stand that 21:9 was introduce couple years ago, and not really meaningful catching up to mainstream.

apart from netflix, wider ratio display also make use in cinema with really really enormous screen

maybe we need to get used to it sometime in distance future

 | While we can't come to a conclusion regarding aspect ratios, the much awaited xz2 premium (or whatever its real name is) passed through fcc as reported by android headlines.. Getting closer towards launch? | | |
