Then again, it is Eldar we're taking the info from here.

Of course I don't have real solid data on sales but one online store in Dubai I check regularly recently marked up the Arc's price by 400dirhams ($108). Hardly the thing to do with something that's not selling. In contrast the Incredible S which was priced the same as the ARC has had 50 dirhams knocked off its price. But unless the Arc shipments are still to few I'd say the Arc is doing pretty well at least in some parts of the world.
On another note what's with facebook being the place for product launches and leaks. Do we actually have a complete spec list on the txt pro and the Mix?

From Eldar's weekly Spillikins:
Bert Nordberg the Sony Ericsson CEO is going to visit Russia on his farewell tour – by the end of the year he will initiate a wave of layoffs in the company and then leave. The formal reason for that is the Q2 2011 losses as well as the coming losses of the second half of the year. While the Q2 losses are apparent the second half results are heuristic and are obvious from the fact that the company's products are not very popular. Sony Ericsson Play failed on all markets and Arc sales are very low and the company can do nothing about it.
Rofl, why the hell would Bert do such a thing. "Farewell tour", hahahahahaha (who the f*ck would do that?), what a retard. This and microsoft buying nokia, has he gone insane? Eldar is not what he used to be, funny I actually listened to him in the past (sometimes)

@motvikt There is nothing insane about what Eldar writes. SE is not doing well. And please read carefully, there are negotiations between MS and Nokia about selling the mobile phone department to MS, not the whole Nokia... |

According to my intuition or gut feeling, Sony/// needs a miracle to survive the coming year. Or some device that will be a munster success as the Iphone has become when it came out.
IM writing this as a big fan, currently owning and enjoying the arc. but even the Arc is a faulty device. Sometimes it runs like a charm but then for no reasons at all it freezes or becomes very slow for some minutes.
kind a stupid when you´re showing it to a friend (to show off a little) but it it takes a minute to open a program.
It is a great device but nothing that will bring them back on track. And there´s nothing even in prospect to bring them back on track.
So yes, Sony/// is on the edge! I would miss them a lot..... |

To some extent I believe Eldar. I do not think SE has had a great first half of the year so far....
Think about it, what phones (especially new ones) do they have on the market? The Arc, thats all. All the others on selected markets only and then they have delivery problems. I am sure the play will not do to well (its not a mass market product) and NEO is not really available. So currentely there offer is 2010 products only, and we all now how good and succesful those were
However one thing I really do not believe is that the company is going to go down any time soon. I really cannot imagine that a company such as Sony is willing to leave the Mobile market to its competitors without a BIG fight. Same goes for Ericsson and thus for them in combination. Both companies have resources and should, no MUST be present in the Mobile phone market of the future.
When all the 2011 line up is available everywhere in the world it will probably be to late again as in previous years and of course a company like SE cannot survive on a couple of good reviews for the Arc especially after the bad reputation they have since there downfall in 2008.
Actually all I wanted to say is that I am sure they will keep up the fight and will not give up because of another bad year. They are more or less forced to stay in the Mobile phone market and each of them trying it by themselves would be even worse. Basically they have no choice but to keep going... i hope....
Sorry for the ridiculously long post. Had a coffee to much this morning... |

It may be true for both Sony and Ericsson as independent companies. Sony Ericsson Mobile has been operating in the red for four straight years. Somehow, Eldar is right. I think it is best for both companies to leave the joint venture. Anyway, both Sony and Ericsson are not that willing to provide their own technologies to the company unlike Samsung and Lg which can basically share almost all of their new technologies on their mobile department.
Sony has already announced their own tablets and I think it's a start.

Maybe your arc having a problem. Untill now, after using for several months I could'n find anything to make the phone slow. The phone always blazing fast all the time. I always give my arc to my friends that having iphone, and they said its very fast. Yes I like to show off infront of my friends.
I'm very happy because finally I have a phone that can shut their mouth off. |

should immediately announce and release the flagship phone with dual-core, (minimum) qHD display, 3D screen, 3D camera, 3D video, (minimum) 1GB RAM, with larger internal memory not like Arc that has only 386 MB(?) available (where is SE's Android with 16GB? 32GB?)
And one more important thing: don't give customer the more-than-ten-times-a-day "force close" of SE Home..!!!

How can Eldar say the Play has failed in all markets when it hasn't launched in the US, it's targeted market, yet.

the only reason Xperia PLAY didnt shine cause there where limited games.
Once Sony launches there 2 tablets there will be plenty more games and in Q4 after NGP launch there will be lots n lots of games and PLAY-2[If has plans to launch] will be a hit.
NGP for hardcore gamers
PLAY-2 for Mob Gamers.
Both products for Different Fields They wont clash. I am Hoping for a Dual Core PLAY-2 Nxt MWC2012 |

There won't be a Play-2 unless the sales of Play-1 can justify it. Its unlikely that anyone will make Play only games because they would rather make iPhone games that don't require keys, thats the way forward. I'm surprised that PS1 titles like Tekken 3, Gran Turismo 2 and some of the best selling games are not available. It has no support so its bound to fail. There is a list of companies and games titles that are to come on the Play which did give me hope at first but if you can only get Crash Bandicoot, you get the impression that nobody give a toss anymore. I'd only buy it if someone hacks PS1 ROMs onto it successfully, that would definitely be worth it because of the pad. |
