amirprog may be onto something, perhaps the ultra will feature the QHD display to differentiate it even more than the main flagship? Unless the ultra is coming later with SD820?

I said already Sony will have us waiting.........now my next smartphone will be in 2016. At least their Mobile Chief stated that 2016 is the year for a substantial change in their flagship offering. Time to search for z6 rumors........

Well I need a phone this year and I hope we'll see the Ultra variant. I can upgrade next year with the next ultra

So a slightly different design and a fingerprint scanner will be the main differences between Z3+ and Z5? New Camera, Soc and design in 2016?!

I feel Sony will opt for the IMX230 on the Z5 line, would be foolish not to use it.

I also agree with this. The imx220 is way too overused now. IMX230 all the way + change the aperture size and lens.
But it intrigues me that the imx230 is not an exclusive sensor (at first) unlike imx220. Probably Sony is hiding some exclusive sensor. I mean they probably didn't announce this sensor because they are not for sale to other OEMs at first. Just hoping they surprise us.
Even the Huawei P8 has the imx278 with RGBW and "Dual sensor synchronization operation.

I hope this is the case, otherwise, the Z5 won't have anything special going for it, except maybe the water and dust resistance, while great, not sure it is a major selling point outside of Japan I feel.

Well after thinking, I do not believe that last rumor. Nexus will come with the SD820 and if it is fhd with SD810 it is practically the same phone with Z3+. So it is kind of not adding up. Since verizon version has 2k screen it will be a real step back.

we will learn soon if this s60 and s70 are z5 and z5 compact, s70+ should be z5 ultra at this point but why it wont release with other z5 series and what is s50? a version of z5 compact with mediatek (e5663)? (but fhd screen?)

http://blogofmobile.com/article/41665

same site (info about e58xx and e66xx with sd810) also said e5663 certified by fcc

it's interesting it called pda phone but not smart phone unlike the others.

https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/ea[....]uMPFpg%3D%3D&fcc_id=PY7-PM0870

this time they used coordinates(rf exposure info page 69) maybe they dont want that we learn phone's dimensions.

@blackzeros
According to all info the ultra will be announced and launch with main and compact.
s50 is most likely the long rumored "lavender" upper mid range c or t, etc. announced before ifa.
e5633 is a more affordable compact. announcement/launch is unknown, spec: http://www.xperiablog.net/201[....]lay-13mp-front-camera-3gb-ram/

Offtopic but it seems that PY7-PM078x is the M4 Aqua, unless this was known, apologies.

https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/ea[....]%2Fr5Q%3D%3D&fcc_id=PY7-PM0787

clicking RF exposure and going to page 39, reveals the dimensions of the device and I compared them to the real M4 aqua and they are super close, 146x73 vs 145.5 x 72.6 for the real device. Next it seems the diagonal does not correspond to the outside dimensions, neither does it correspond to the number of inches of the screen

158.6 mm - 6.24 inches. O_o, so perhaps this diagonal on the image, just like in the previous device is the diagonal of the entire device and not the screen, albeit measured in some odd way, perhaps not from edge to edge?

PY7-PM-079x seems to be the Z3+/Z4 family
PY7-PM-085x is the E4g
PY7-PM-063x is the E4
PY7-PM-080x ??

PY7-PM-086x - dimensions from documents are 77.2 x 149.9cm, diagonal of 164.5cm (6.47 inches)
https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/ea[....]y7TH4A%3D%3D&fcc_id=PY7-PM0863
--> click RF exposure and then page 37.

PY7-PM-0817 - D6683 - Z3 Dual

PY7-PM-084x - no idea, also can't find dimensions in docs
https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/ea[....]SrjYVQ%3D%3D&fcc_id=PY7-PM0841

PY7-PM-089x - the large device previously discussed, 164.19 x 70.50, diagonal of 178.33, my bet this is the ultra.

PY7-PM0875 - single sim, PY7-PM0870 is dual sim according to the docs
PY7-PM0874 - single sim, PY7-PM0873 is dual sim

if anyone finds anymore info, let me know, I'll edit this post to add the info to it.

S810 again, but new Ultra might be ok with larger surface to spread heat.

Or, 810 is finally getting ready without throttling...

But for what ever reason, I can't find any logic in insisting on releasing a flagship with an SoC that will be replaced in two months with much better successor...

@Xajel

This is my thought as well, Sony has optimized the design of the new device to better dissipate heat but it seems xperiablog says no in a tweet to me. They have seen the device they wrote but can't post the photos.

As for the SD820, it is sampling right now, but wasn't earlier in the year and the Z5 was probably planned and designed before the SD820 started sampling, so this is why the SD810 is being used. I feel Sony has a much longer process for development versus other companies.

Love these little flurries of rumours that crop up every once in a while

It's looking more and more likely that a new Ultra phone is on the way, and I am DAMNED excited by that. I'm just hoping that it won't skimp on any specs compared to the flagship. My Z Ultra is ready to be replaced.

I think the major upgrade would be the camera and the screen, everything else would be the same. I don't understand why they charge premium based on the previous leaks. Perhaps the ultra version would be the major upgrade for this year with 820 that's why it's overprice
