@meths, it's also coming up to the new model year, so lots of 2005 bikes are gonna be sold off cheaper. There aren't many 'bad' bikes anymore ie you stick to well known brands. GT i-drive frames are good as are Specialized FSR if you want a full susser. Look at air shocks in pref to coils for the adjustability. Have a look at MBR magazine too, useful info and mail order ads too.

or if ya budget is bigger than the Queens you cant go to far wrong with a litespeed Pisgah hmmm lovely Ti
i do love life on two wheels.
EDIT: Oh and youll notice not a full susser in sight! there not bikes, i used to do DH on a hardtail, theres no need at all for a full susser.
get a hardtail or if you want to be really hardcore go for a full on rigid. just like my 24seven

a hardtail is a frame without rear suspension, so go figure what a softtail means.

to be fair a softtail isnt the same as a full susser!
a soft tail doesnt have any links or joints. it purely relies on the properties on either Ti or Steel. generally you will fine with Ti bikes that they will be softtail even without having ay kind of shock. the frame can bend ever so slightly without ant damage being caused.
i long for the day i can hop aboard a Ti bike and fly about

I was bought one of these a few months ago
I dont ride it to its full potential as there arent many downhill courses around where I live. Looks gorgeous though, makes everyone jealous. |

is my bros trusty steed. he rags DH too on a hardtail.
you learn skill on a HT then should you really feel the need you can transfer that to a FF and you should be capable of going faster, but i can do XC quicker on my hardtail dale than my mates can do on FF Marin/Specialized/Kona etc
any my iccle bro can cain anyone on his Norco 4Hun. its all about skil!

Some pics of my Heavy Tools Trial.
I can switch it from being a trials bike (P2 Forks and Middleburn Pro Trial)
and switch it back to a Jump/Freeride bike (Bomber '06 and Middleburn Uno)
just takes 20 minutes.....
