I read somewhere that operator locked phones will come in different colors while unlocked will only be available in the colors specified at SE site. |

i don't think that would be a problem. K500 also supports DRM files but there are no problems with mp3s (they can be used as ring tones).
The problem would appear on a Vodafonized W800 (bliah).
Btw..has anyone info about the sms storage on W800? Wouldn't be nice if it was using the memory stick for storing sms instead of limiting us on 80-100sms? |

Indeed. Sms memory should be not limited to 80 to 100 messages.

Another EDGE user that nneds another SE phone other than the s710a that has EDGE.
First off SE still uses Ericsson's platforms for the hardware of most of their phones. Ericsson also sells platforms to other major manufacturer's including Panasonic of recently.
Now ALL cellphone manufacturer's think of the USA as a continent on its on. USA citizens are by far amongs the largest consumers in the world; second to Asian nations. That said the funny thing is that 80% the coverage of USA & 95% coverage of Canada (USA: Cingular Wireless, AT&T, Canada: Rogers Wireless).
I see that SE may just be ignoring the North American continent as a cost measure for the k750i - 2 different radio types can increase manufacturing costs. It may hurt potential sales, but this formula has worked before (t610/s700/k700). But how is it gonna help/hurt SE this time. How slow do you think sending a 2 megapixel picture across a GPRS network will be??
personally I gotta have this phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll get the s710a for EDGE to use it as a wireless modem. |

@Prom1
1. Correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't GSM still a small market in NA compared to CDMA ?
2. If you only need Edge as a wireless modem, there are dedicated PC cards from SE and other manufacturers just for that.

Since we're sure it's coming out in America...
I hope the W800 doesn't come out on Cingular...it should come out on T-Mobile.

One other thing I haven't seen mentioned here as to why they come with their own headset instead of just a jack is that it most likely has a microphone attached for being portable handsfree.
I guess they might have made the microphone have the 3.5 plug in it, but the the lead for your own headphones would have the microphone down at your knees. hehe |

I got my hands on a proto W800 today!
I work in a shop in Sweden, and one guy that I helped showed me his W800. Damn! I only got my hands on it for like 2 min, but it was really nice. Badly, the proto was all silver-color, and not the "silver-orange" one thatīs on SE site. But the shape, the buttons, the design, the display and the camera was very nice! I asked him to take a picture of me with it, and then he transfered it to my Z1010! It looks really nice on the computer screen! The preferences on the pictures when I look at it on the computer (which camera that did take the picture) does say K750i though.
Just wanted to share this to you all! |

@Arne Anka,
The coverage of EDGE/GSM/GPRS is huge in North America with AT&TWireless/Cingular or just Cingular if you want to call the united pair in the USA, and seemless roaming in Canada on Rogers & Fido (Fido only GSM/GPRS a true core GSM/GPRS network btw).
research sites on www.rogers.com for Rogers' wireless (formally known as Rogers AT&T Wireless before shares bought out by Cingular), Fido.ca for (gsm/gprs) Fido, cingular.com for Cingular in the USA.
Fido GSM/GPRS been in Canada (urban locations) for almost 5 years.
Rogers had GPRS (overlayed onto TDMA legacy) since Nov 2 (official) 2001. EDGE since this past July 1/05. Incredible speeds.
I don't want a data card (more cost as Roger's nicknamed Robbers' wants to sell a whole data package and what nots that I don't need), and my upcoming PowerBook 12" doesn't have a PC Card slot.
Cheers. |

But how does GSM stand against CDMA in NA ?
How big procentage of the total NA market is GSM and how much CDMA. Althoug GSM may be big I got the impression CDMA is even bigger (at least it was once upon a time). |

Im almost certain that this will be the phone to replace my K700 when my upgrade is due in Aug. It's like the K700 but better. The buttons look solid (which is a real issue for me - the K700 buttons are a bit wobbly) and Id be delighted to see a 3.5 mm socket for the headphone. I wish they'd change the charger and headphone contacts on these phones - they're so prone to loose connections. |
