Yep that's likely. But how does it matter, we aren't gonna import Japanese variant, are we? |

Dunno about the increased ROM, but first two are extremely likely. |

From Phone Arena:
Do you think the Z1 will produce high-quality pictures capable of rivaling the likes of the GS4 and the LG G2? http://www.phonearena.com/new[....]lter-camera-samples_id47167#2-
It should be can the Galaxy s4 and LG G2 produce high quality pictures capable of rivaling the likes of Xperia Z1 Imaging Prowess instead

actually they phrased it correctly. GS4 and G2 are out first. as the new kid on the block Z1 needs to prove itself.

just wondering, if we get the Japanese variant, what are the cons?
the pros are definitely the additional features such as IR blaster n TV tuner etc
what about the rooting process, custom ROM etc? does it work universally? |

It will have a locked bootloader, no way around that. |

Well that's awesome! So, BIONZ mobile is still not configured, if I understand correctly?

So far from the samples we've been having as of this moment the 20MP samples are a mixed bag(depending on the lighting/scene, you get noise-infested to excellent low ISO pictures), but the 8mp ones are really good even at higher ISO.
I noticed that from the day I first saw the z1 preproduction samples, Sony really haven't done anything much on eliminating the luminance noise on the 20MP photos. it's equally as detailed as the QX10 but the NR alrogithm on the latter is more balanced, effectively eliminating luminance noise while retaining as much details as possible. this is the only weak point I can sniff out of the Z1 camera performance so far.
to demonstrate my argument I retouched the picture below (originally taken by androidpit) and this is how it looked
And Notice how QX10 and Z1 samples looked virtually the same now. I think Sony should release a better firmware to resolve this issue before the device ships, would prefer if the Sony Imaging team would handle this. I like it though that it's only luminance noise, because it's easy to fix, chroma noise(the issue with 2011/2012 Xperia cameras) is an utter disaster even on DSLRs.
Just imagine if Sony marketed Z1 as a 8mp 16:9 (downsampled from 20mp) camera smartphone rather than a 20mp.

looks good razec and it sounds like it should be an easy fix for the sony imaging team to implement in a firmware update. since units are probably already shipping to retailers/carriers, it'll probably be in the first update.. and by the sound of things, that update will probably come fairly soon like oct/nov

The pictures Ramu posted look good on my iphone, but i'll refrain to post a comment before i can use it or see techradar or other site review.
@moogoo: thanks mate, Latios posted a similar link, i am definitely trying it on september 14 or 15.
@Tejstar: sorry i am not familiar with android, i have read a bit but you can unlock locked bootloaders no? Or does this mean we are stuck with docomo crapware, and no way to get full control of the phone?
