You see in this comparison, I actually think what you think is worse, is actually better.
If that is from a 100% 41mp image, its going to have grain, because the pixel binning thing which brings the pure images only occurs when the images are taken using the pixel binning method. So, from that example, to me the 1020 version is better because its sharper. The 808 image is blurred and shows less detail.

All these differences will be exaggerated further if you take the phones outside and shoot some proper landscapes and close ups

There is no disputing that !
808 Pureview (at the time) is infinitely better than 1020 Pureview !
1020 Pureview has much noise and annoyingly saturated colors, not counting the flash that shows exponentially weaker !
At least until February 2015 (probable month and year in which the successor to 1020 Pureview), 808 Pureview is the King Of Cameraphones ! |

@ cu015170 - as fun as it is to compare shots like those, theres no much point imo.
None of them are impressive from either phone since they're taken as press shots at an indoors media event. Such examples are never of high quality from any phones. And, since people are not used to using the 1020 as much, they probably find it harder to take a killer shot straight away.

... ya like I expected he didn't set the 808 to 95% jpeg compression either. I don't understand why non of them do.. its not that hard, its one click away.
Otherwise Steve gets it.. his website is probably one of the few places where the articles aren't based on pure fanboism |

808 is a better camera. 1020 can be fixed with software but whether they fix it is a big question. |

Superiority 808 is not just the software but also the hardware !
Remember 808 "True Pureview" sensor is larger (1/1.2") and more powerful flash (4 meters), if BSI sensor and OIS were essences for outstanding image quality, Htc One and Lumia 920 Pureview would be the best cameraphones, and in fact are among the worst ! |

Mmm in this comparison 1020 have the best details and better sharpness don't you think ?
But there's too much yellow tint and grainy.
1020 need software update.
The thing's missing is the choice of other resolution and not only 5mp or 34/38mp.
Not bad for the S4 zoom but this device is too bulky ! |
