Well, you can have the phone it just won't work as well with out the 850MHz. Just like the P800 and P900 they did not work as well as my P910a. Are you saying that the P990 is not going to work on any of the North American GSM networks? |

P990i of course it'll work with North American 1900mhz GSM/GPRS networks. How long did it take SE to make the P910a avialable after official shipping of the P900i? If its like 7+ months there is hope of a P990a with 3G/HSDPA. Here in Canada Rogers Wireless announced public commitment to this in mid 2006, while Cingular has trialed for 2 years and official launch of the same 3G/HSDPA by end of 2005 in 15 markets. All this is on the existing 850Mhz & 1900Mhz bands; because we have the spectrum available to the wireless carriers here without congestion (5Mhz-25Mhz auctioned off to all carriers per sector nations wide for Canada & USA respectively) |

Can't wait for this baby. And it will work with T-mob in US. They do only 1900 band.

Will 802.11b and 802.11G be much of a difference?
I mean whether B or G, most ISPs still provide 512kbps....
Anyone have ideas on this? |

Well it looks great but it is at least 3 months too late, a lot of people with the p910i got it a year ago and are going to upgrade soon, end of november for me.
So lets hope the new HTC's are good.
Bye Bye Ericsson its been a fine ride.

What? the timing is perfect!! a hell of a lot of people got their P910i in May - July a year ago on the cheap deals from O2 so wont be ready to upgrade till then, and by second quarter even Vodafone should have it on their network! I cannot wait!
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot. |

Good god you lot bitch don't you?
1) It was never going to be any smaller because whatever happened it was going to have a removable flip and a full QWERT KB on the machine, plus they want a large screen for business work (Thats right kids, it's a business phone, and SE care more about how many units IBM will buy than you)
2) It looks great, certainly better than all the other P series (I had a P900 and loved it, K750 right now)
3) Wi-Fi!!! I've been waiting for a phone I liked, IE not Treo or M$ with Wi-Fi for ages, now I can get one and surf from bed (fnar). It's not 802.11G? OH MY GOD GO KILL THE DESIGNERS NOW!! Who cares, no one will notice and if your transferring files that fat, get a USB cable.
4) Who the hell needs a 3Mp cam on their phone? The differences between 2 & 3 are negligable and this 2Mp will undoubtably be better than the K750s (Which rules TBH)
5) Memory sticks - they don't put a big pne in the box because . . . . . . . THEY WANT YOU TO BUY ANOTHER ONE YOU IDIOTS!!!! Same reason the PSP comes with a 64mb, Sony make more money from accesories like camera bags, batteries, extra playsation controllers and replacement remotes than they do for all their other stuff.
6) 80 Mb is enough for any internal files, if you need more, you have obsessive compulsive disorder, uninstall some shit fs.
Whining ninnies.

i don't understand why some morons are trying to compare p990 with e61. p990 is the best phone ever made. no one can deny this. with this p990, it is clearly understood that produces the best-featured phones while nokia gets the share by selling cheap models. |

Nokia has the best marketing. They are outselling the P-series with
the E-series next year. But that is due to the fact the E-series is
placed exteremely well into the market. The P990i is something else.
SE wants to show what they can do and build the best smartphone
outthere. It is marketed differently and can never be compared with
any E-series so far. The only device which you can compare it with
is maybe the N80, hp hw6700 serie or the Treo 650/700w. That is
all.

I'm a deadset fan of the Sony Ericsson P series.. I've owned each and every model available. If I just had enough money , I wouldnt even consider selling the outdated models.
But one thing I wish SE would improve on is its speed.. I kinda find SE to be on the slow side.
I just hope that the P990 wouldnt hang as much as it did with the P800. My P910 is 100% flawless.... |

Well that depends in what country you live in. Here, in Sweden, 24Mbit/s is rather common in larger cities.

I've been in the woods way too long WHOAH!!!!
I will certainly be first in line to pick one of these babies up.. Despite some of its design flaws that I can speculate from the pictures it wil definately be an improvement from my other P- series. The only thing that has kept me going with this P910i after a year is the Blackberry software that I have been playing around with. Other then that my P900 and P800 are still collecting dust close to half a decade later.
Needless to say I'm impressed by these specs and it certainly rivals some of the garbage handsets I've been tinkering with like the Nokia 9500, HTC, Moto MPX, and Moto A1000. I still get wows over my P910 where those other phones only get a "huh"... Good job SE.. But I'm sure you customer service will still sucks when consumers try to get help on some of the bugs in this new unit.

This phone is bigger than k750, which means it has more room for a camera... Why only 2MPX when there already are 3MPX phones out there (seen on tv one in a report about a soap opera for mobiles being released in China)?

I'd imagine it's because of overall functionality and components that this unit employs. I've have a Samsung SCH-S250 handset I purchased through a SK Telecom for less then $500 quite a few months ago that has a built-in 5MP camera. That said, the marketing focus on that particular phone was on its camera. No other major frills offered other then the basics. So all the other shortcommings were totally accepted.
It's about efficiency of parts in an entire system. How to squeeze all that and cost together becomes a business decision. So again, I don't gather it's economically viable for SE to go that route without other raising red flags. Besides they figure that a high-res camera is not top priority for business/consumers looking @ their P-series. Those marketed high-res cam phones are for the bubble-gum industry kids.
