My guess is, all online maps (except for a few that aren't useful here) - would be copyrighted - and most of them even have strict policies on use.

Digital geographical data tends to be very expensive - and usually subscription-based (I know a complete map of Denmark on CD-ROMs (the same data used for Danish online maps) costs $2000 a year for a single user, non-distribution license). Hence, most online maps won't want you to reuse their data, simply because it costs them a fortune to put it online.

Already before I got this phone, I was considering doing a J2ME (Java) map software, which would have all streets of Copenhagen with landmarks etc., in vector graphics format and with the ability to search for streets etc. Basically an enhanced version of the free Moscow map software that I've seen on some site - with better drawing of street names - and with resource usage that would allow it to run on the k750i (Moscow Map 2 doesn't). Had a lot of ideas for implementation of that...

However, couldn't ever make it publicly available, since I can't afford to distribute such a map. Plus, I can't even get an already vectorbased map to base it on. Hence, for now, that project is on hold, while I look for the time to either manually turn my 16000x16000 pixel map of Copenhagen into lines and polygons, and type in all the street names, or write a piece of software to vectorize it and do OCR on the street names

They're all pretty much copyright.

Im not going to approve any site you use, but lets just say, how is any site going to know you're using their maps on your mobile phone ? they simply cannot possibly know.

Besides, you're not using the map on your website or making money from it, in fact you're using it for its intended purpose but have the ability to take it with you, rather than be stuck at your PC.

The K750i, and im guessing the W800i, can enlarge the image 32x.

Its not the zoom on the phone that matters (you just use that to make the large picture viewable on the screen), but the scale used of the map.

For example, id use 1:25000 scale.

I think i found it. You can zoom on images, in horizontal mode, but only on JPG files. I'm not able to zoom gif images, but jpg works fine for me

We'd already established that through my stupidity earlier in the thread.
