New firmware K750i decreases the bit-rate of recorded videos? |

Well, I've just sent SE an email via their website. Obviously, this is the most likely way we have of finding out the reasons behind the change. |

@sapporobaby, while I do understand the point you are trying to make I can only assume that you haven't called se service centres much.
A little before I joined here but moreso since I became mod (as I take this job seriously), I call SE service centres regularly to find out about problems that are mentioned here on Esato in the hope that I can add something to the conversation that would help people believe that thnigs will get better (or not) in the future, or find reasons for bugs we find etc etc. often I call back 2 or 3 times to speak to different people to see if I get different answers too!
indeed just yesterday I called them about this exact issue and they had no knowledge that there was a problem or any change of video quality in the latest firmware.
I have called the UK, Aus and german SE service centres round 3 or more times a month since the T68i came out (the german SE service centre is generally the best btw) but rarely do they know about problems and if they do then even more rarely do they acknowledge that problems I describe to them exist. Thats 4 years or so of regular calls to SE service centres and I can tell you that unless you can get them to put you through to a technical specialist, which is very rare, the usual comment is to send your phone in to be checked or to have a firmware upgrade or some other action that mostly is clearly a waste of time.
when I had a T610 I actually had a second one just to for this and everytime they suggested sending it in to Celestica I did exactly that and the only time they actually ever did anything that fixed a problem was when they fixed the hiss. most times they had the phone for 3 weeks minimum and returned it with a note saying no problem found
SE service centres and SE customer support have always sucked and I rarely suggest anyone to bother with them because they are no better than most customer service centres for any consumer product you might own.
but... I still keep calling in the hope of getting someone who actually takes an interest and therefore whose name I can get as a regular contact. I did have one contact briefly a year ago but he left because he couldn't stand the unprofessionalism there
I have also spoken to low level management and PR of SE in UK in an attempt to get models to test before release, and also to get a direct line of support for our forum, but they have no interest in this despite my fairly high profile here at Esato and the impact I can make on the view of members (their customers) by possibly getting fast solutions or answers to problems
they simply have no interest whatsoever in the little people and this is much the same with most companies I have dealt with, HP being a good example of the exception
apart from this point I have made and that I am pasionate about, discussion of problems like this topic is what forums are for. regardless of what any customer service might say, in my experience, forums like this often come up with solutions or workaround to problems and so we should not try to prevent members from conducting such disucssions otherwise, what are we here for?

Right Masseur,
This is where the vets of Esato could simply help those out that have no clue or the resources. To speculate over and over will not solve the issue. This is my main point. Let's find out.

unfortunately being a long time member (if thats what vet means) does not mean you know all about new phones and new problems.
if that were the case I and many other would certainly not be holding back with answers every day
its a sad fact that mostly all we can do is discuss it here in the hope that someone at SE is watching, takes note and does something about it in future...and thats the sad reality of it all
lets hope someone imprtant is readnig this thread

Im sorry if I caused offence by saying that the camera quality wasnt important to me, Its just not! sorry!
If you werent having any problems with your phone before then maybe the phrase "If its not broken dont fix it" applies here.
Yeah either it was a necessary change or they screwed up, either way its unlikely that its gonna be fixed knowing SE.
The ONLY solution at this stage is to avoid that firmware and that I'm afraid is a fact whether you like it or not
Is it actually possible to downgrade? |

Sad but true. I will go over to SE tomorrow and see if I can get some answers about this. As I do not have a k750i, I did not feel the need but you made some good points Masseur, so now I am interested just for the hell of it.

dont be sorry, no offence taken, you are fully in title to not think this is an important feature
#saporobaby
My main concern was not to dvelwe/dwelve (how do you spell that) in the fact that quality had decreased but the reason why, and we found the reason very quickly, the bitrate had been lowered. And futhermore to make sure it was published here.
Like masseur pointed out, it is actually important to bring stuff like this up in this forum, and as precise as possible. I know some people at S//E development, and I assure you they do read and gather quite alot information from Esato forums regarding these bugs/mishaps and the user responses, some times they even write here though they are not allowed to reveal themselves as S//E personell. You might even have debated with some without you knowing it.
Servicecentres are servicecentres, they often dont know didly about what the technicians are doing, and technicians dont rely solely on the servicecentres to deliver information about received bugs.
Esato Forums is and has been for a long time an important factor in the development of S//E phones. I assure you the bugreports and the posts here do not go unnoted. We may not allways get all our wishes filled, there are other factors to take into consideration, but things mentioned here do get noted.
A small example, I know for a fact, that the many outspoken wishes here about usercustomisable sms tones was one of the main reasons it was considdered and finally implemented in the K750 platform.

With all of this being said, I will go check it out now. I just got a z800 and had no real desire for another phone (got a Nokia 6680 from a friend. Still in the box and no hate mail please. ), but now I am intrigued by the k750i. Luckily I can get them for 33% off, so I might just have to pick up one. See what you guys did?

wow...really... ...i like SE peoples to go through esato...for one main reason... here we are all a true fan of SE and we give out our heartfelt response here... it makes me feel good to know that the SE peoples do go through this site....
i really like them to take god interest in this site and continue implementing the facts that we put here ...
as we are looking forward for better SE phones and dont want them to degrade...as you can see in terms of the new firmwire that ttok away the video quality... ...
PLEASE SE ...do take the esato users wish by heart and implement them...

hahaha, thats really funny
no hatemail indeed, N6680 is definately a nice phone - I love my S//E's but Im not so much fanboy that I cannot see good in anything else
But I agree, if you can get one with 33% off, you might just have to pick up one of these k750's and test it out

it is true that with the new firmware you get pictues with smaller filesize...
the decrease in size is about 15-20% in the best quality mode !
the reason ? maybe higher jpeg compression....
why would they do this ? dont know, but my pictures certainly dont look as good.
so, this is becoming a more crippled gadget. worse video and pictures taken....
... nice...
it really does make me wonder, what is the True Potential of this phone ??? maybe it can take even better videos with 200+ bitrate !!!
