Let's back to the title: S60 vs UIQ and no more discussion or comparison about S60 vs SE Propietary OS because it's obviously different. OK?
I had been using UIQ on my (was) P900 and also have been tried S60 sometimes of my friends and I think UIQ is much better and easier than S60. That's it.

are you stupid Nokialoverx or are you just here to piss people off?
Firstly, Nokia does not "own" the Symbian OS. Symbian is a software licensing company that develops and supplies the advanced, open, standard operating system – Symbian OS – for data-enabled mobile phones.
Symbian established as a private independent company in June 1998, owned by Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola and Psion.
SO ... NOKIA DOES NOT "OWN" MOST OF ANYTHING. THE COMPANY IS OWNED EQUALLY BY THE MENTIONED MANUFACTURERS.
Secondly, S60 vs UIQ ??? Discussed this millions of times but here it goes again ....
UIQ Rulez hands down ... no question about it. |

Both S60 and UIQ are designed for different device type (pen & thumb-based). No point in comparing them. UIQ should be compared to S90. |

1st - I'd like to mention that as long as we can accept each others opinions, then this wont end up as a childish thread.
However facts. Symbian OS "IS" and idepently run company run by founders that bought the licensing rights from Psion - the company that made the Psion clamshell PDA's before PocketPC's existed. Nokia right now owns roughly 41% not a controlling stake but very close; there was an uproar last summer because Sendo was pulling out and selling their stock to Nokia would've given it controlling stake. Nokia almost did it but with pressure from SE, Motorola, Panasonic & other companies on the decision process board withdrawn from the entire stock purchase from Sendo; then Sendo's stock was divided evenly between the others.
Correction I may be wrong about Sendo selling Symbian OS stock but everything else is close.
Series60 User Interface IS owned by Nokia; they license the right to use it & modify it to other company's.
Opinion/Fact: the way a user interface for Symbian OS looks - whether you feel crappy or amazing -> whether S60/S90, S80, or UIQ -- depends on your ability to see all the themes created for each. If you only see one, that's like saying you've seen a 38yr old woman who's from one part of the world and decide all are outta shape, hairy, and ugly. Boy dont do that, because there are very HOT 38yr women out there that would put the beauty of a 21yr woman to shame in EVERY department incl under the sheets. Same goes for the Symbian OS UI's.
S60 was designed to be simple to navigate to get to different apps and look more like traditional phones. UIQ was meant to showcase more screen realestate and the power of touchscreen. My preference is for S60, because the multitude of phone ranges & styles available to me. The only UIQ phone I found useful & stylish is the SE Pseries; unfortunately for me there STILL expensive for my 1-time purchase budget & dont currently offer EDGE data speeds. Moto's UIQ phones are just all ugly in design, so I wont touch those until thats fixed.
In range of applications & power UIQ & S60 are pretty much neck & neck. I havent found one app that is available on one that isnt on the other; if so then anothe r app by a different name that offers similar features is available.
Just be happy its all about choice; the GUI, the phone company, and styling.
With Windows Mobile OS; choice is limited to the phone manufacturer - mainly HTC/HP/Samsung possibly Dell? and to the styling thats rebranded so many times. ie. Jam, Universal, BlueAngel, etc. |

I wholeheartedly agree, different strokes for different folks. I've been happy with s60, as i have with s30 and s40. I was also happy with my 1st NEC, as i was with my old Ericsson. It's what you make of a phone that determines its worth to you. Bitchiness is really childish, so what's the point? Live and let live.
