I got into the service now, but WHAT THE F**K??

I get this message:

Your device is not permitted to use this service

Your operator does not approve the use of this service with this device.
We look forward to assisting you again soon.
Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service!

I got that same message, but i have a P900 which is still locked to UK Orange (*off the topic* want to unlock but don't know how).

I think it gives that message because the phone companies have there own version of the firmware and they don't want you to modify their fireware.

(Don't trust the info I give cause I'm new! Also cause I'm guessing!)

I'm having issues trying to get updates for my V800. I gave it a break and I'll try again later tonight.

If your on orange you should never expect to be able to update your firmware to the latest, orange firmware releases tend to be about 6-8 months benind the rest of the world. They like to fiddle with them before they let you download them.

The SE update service asks for that code. That tells them what firmware your 'allowed' to have. If its a sim free off the shelf one you can use the SE one. If the phone was brought from a phone company then the firmware can only be updated to versions approved by the vendor. Even if they dont have limits they still need to tell SE that its ok to allow install of the latest. Nag your phone company to approve the update.
