I too have the same problem, with the phone (T68i) not connecting to the switching centre. Also the cell site information remaining on only for a very short time, or until the menu has been entered.

At the moment SonyEriccson acknowledge the problems, but believe that it is the fault of the network and not their handsets

The network provider here in New Zealand is also fully aware of the problem, and is looking into it.But as yet no solutions.

The more information we can get through this Forum on these two matter's the better.

I know of 3 other people with the T68(m)i that are having the same problem including myself. It seems that the phone is not updating itself on the network if it is in one place for a while. I can get into the car drive around and sometimes a pile of sms will come in. Other times I can drive in the same general area for as long as I like and it is only once I make a call that the phone downloads sms.

I've got the same!
No GPRS or anything else working or attached, they just can't reach me! Maybe I will get an insight on the matter, because I am working with SONY spare parts, and maybe with the SONYericsson parts too, but at the moment, no technical information available yet.
my provider is Mobistar.

I too have been having this problem. I'm trialing the pref. service fix now. I talked to SonyEricsson and Service Centers here in NZ about it, but they don't want to know. They also won't honour my warranty because I bought the phone overseas. I can't understand this as I have a standard warranty that mentions nothing about being localised. I'm having this mater investigated legally.

I'll let the board know how the reception fix goes. I'm interested in talking to any other kiwi that has had this problem on vodafone. Please e-mail me.

Well, I have tried to turn the GPRS and GSM to GSM only. It seems to work, but it is annoying to have to turn GPRS on everytime I am going to use WAP.

Sad to have a phone which is impossible to reach now and then without changing settings.

How is it with you that tried to contact the service point? Any progress?

mruane: i mean gsm 900? gsm 1800? gsm 1900? egsm 900? my first t68 (from the very first batch) developed this problem after a few months... but only when using gsm 1800 base stations (which my provider almost solely uses) got a new phone... got that stolen... and now i have a old one from the first batch again which works flawlessly...

Je moet je T68 opsturen,
Ik had hetzelfde probleem met de mijne en /// heeft hem toen omgeruild.

I just told brimmen to send it to SE and let them change the phone

I have a R520m and I have the same problem. Beside this yesterday I had an opportunity to test this bug. I have a GPRS too but I was using "GSM only" setting. I wanted from my friend to call me and he couldn't reach me(even in gsm only setting). And then I tried to make a call but also my phone couldn't connect.

Another issue is my GSM operator is new one(TR AYCELL 1800MHZ) and GPRS signal is going and coming all the time. Sometimes my phone get disconnected from service. And it writes "WRONG PHONE" where the GSM opertors name is written. As soon as I restart my phone it works normally. This happens when "GPRS signal is present but not avaliable for connection" indicator is on. And when I restart phone "GPRS signal is present and available for connection" indicator comes. Briefly i thing when the GPRS signal comes back this thing happens.

My phones software version is R4A.

It could be a network problem. I have been testing GPRS for 3 years and I have seen alot of strange behaviours. The first thing that you should always do is to upgrade you mobile to the latest software. If it still does not work you should contact you operator. It is a big chance that the are aware of the problem.

One common problem is that moste operators are not using the latest software from the network vendors and that is because upgrades costa alot of money. I still get reports from operators about known network related buggs that have been fixed, but they have not upgraded the software.

But it can also be a bug in the mobil software and the best thing is to report it to your operator. And if it is a common problem, be sure that the will put the flame on the mobile vendors ass

As some1 here said earlier, he has two sims at 2 diff#rent operators.with one is ok, with the other he gets this kind of problem.this thing u r talking about is an OPERATOR problem. The reason is very simple: one cell ( a zone covered by one gsm antenna) can hold NO MORE than 24 (or so!) simultanous calls) a 25th call beeing initiated would get " the number u have called is out of reached or the phone is closed)...that#s exactly what u said here.I know all this by working with an gsm operator here.this is not a national problem, but a gsm problem and there's a solution: the reorientation of the gsm antenna but the operator usually doesn't aknowledege the problem:))
that's the problem in 2 words.I hate to see ppl that doesnt know what are they talking about posting here a lot of crap...take care now, bye!
