The first phone ever with an intergrated camera was the J-SH04 made by Sharp in November 2000.

So, acording to answers.com the J-SH04 was made by Sharp Corporation and released by J-Phone (Vodafone) in Japan in November 2000. It was the world's first camera phone.

The phone featured a 110,000-pixel camera on the back side of the phone and a large 256-color STN display on the front side.
It also had a 500-number phone book, one-button web access, speaker phone, and Li-ion battery capable of 125 minutes of talktime.
Happy then

Sure looks like it, tecnically, yes.
My guess it that modern, up to date, tecnology would still beat that due to lences and shutters.

Cool, I didn't know that you could use the MCA series with B&W phones, also how much memory did these MCA's have?
Yeah, I remember that Sharp, we talked about it at my house, it was in a newspaper if I remember correctly, and we were all saying, how much of a waste of money it was, and how stupid to have a camera in a phone.
I then made jokes about video capture and calling, (reffering to many sci-fi films), but, look where we are today. I do often, just stop and think at how incredibly technology is evolving, it is amazing.
