T68i fault from O2..!! |

This is actually a problem with the T68i being slow to send a SMS received notification to the network. This problem does not show up on Vodafone networks because it was ironed out during evaluation of the phone.
Phones do not appear in Vodafone retail shops until they are fully ratified and approved by Vodafone, that is why (unless an exclusivity deal with the manufacturer exists) you can often find new phones available in other shops first - you may find though that these phones do not have a software version that is approved because of unacceptable bugs and compatibility problems. O2 is not as tough on testing new devices as Vodafone.
In the case of this SMS problem with the T68i, the problem was solved on the network side to facilitate the older software releases of the T68i firmware.

Hi Copia
If what you said is true, how come I still get multiple texts on O2 and Virgin? It seems the networks have still not solved the porblem for older software versions.
DOES THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST WITH THE LATEST VERSION???
Anybody solved the problem with latest version??? |

O2 and Genie are essentially the same company, Virgin use T-Mobile's network but their own SMSC.
I don't know about other NETWORK operators, but Vodafone fixed the problem and do not need the fix to be in firmware. By the sounds of it, O2/Genie are looking to do a network fix as well - sensible as it will otherwise mean a lot of retro fitting of firmware (not everyone will be bothered to upgrade).

heres the reply I got from them admitting it has only happened since they upgraded the software in their SMSCs.
They mention they might try extending the timeout on the SMSCs to wait longer for a response from the phone.
--------- REPLY FROM o2 ---------------
A technical problem has occurred on the phone Sony Ericsson T68i
regarding SMS messages. This fault can cause a message to be received
over and over again.
The phone does not recognise the receipt of some SMS messages and thus
the SMSC keeps retrying to send the message
This issue was identified approximately 2 months ago with the rollout
of version 2700 software to the SMSC's. The new software defines a much
shorter time for the handset to acknowledge receipt of messages.
The only time where this can be an issue is with Alpha Numeric headed
messages such as Genie alerts, F1 results, Big Brother etc and only on
the T68i.
Customer experience could be up to 72 hours of receiving the same
message with all other messages queuing not being delivered until
either:-
The acknowledgement from the original SMS was returned in time or the
SMS validity period expired i.e. 72 hours
This problem was raised with Sony Ericsson at the end of June, they
acknowledged the problem and have proposed a fix, which is still to be
confirmed, that is scheduled for release at the end of September. We
are working with Sony Ericsson to agree the easiest upgrade path for
our customers.
The problem can possibly be fixed on the 12 SMSC's that currently have
this software version by extending the timeout parameter back to 60
seconds. This will be the best customer experience by far as the fix
will be transparent to them.
As soon as any more information is received regarding resolving the
problem you will be informed.
We apologise for any inconvenience it has caused to you.

lets hope they do keep me updated

umm...
I just got the t68i from the carphone werehouse, it has the R2B05 software on the phone, and I am also contantly getting SMS messages from everyone that has texted me, and from the free o2 SMS service, any one else got this?
I spoke to the people in carphone werehouse, and they refuse to take the phone in for re-flashing to a newer firmware, saying theres nothing wrong with the phone....
Is there a newer firmwear then the one I have on the phone and how would I go about upgrading to the newer one, plus would it fix the SMS problem I am and it seems every other o2 contract customer is getting ??
Thanks
Sanjiyan

Ive had the re-occuring SMS messages from 02 - The only way i could stop them and this was how 02 told me how to do it. Put the SIM card in another phone, say a Nokia - wait for the SMS to arrive, read it and this should cure the problem. Its a fault with the SMSC that O2 use to send out alerts, marketing cr*p and text msgs from their website. It wont accept the SMS receipt that the T68i sends back. For some reason the receipt has some extra information that the O2 smsc cannot register so rejects the receipt and re-sends the msg.
So im stuck now until i get home tonight receiving these damn "Who wants to be a millionaire" sms text from O2 - Thank god i kept my 7110
