been using the SP3i for a few days now and so a few comments

the interface has a nice feel to it and I am able to run versions of my favourite ipaq applications on it, such as microsoft pocket streets and betaplayer to play the movies and video clips that I can make direct from my DVDs (been doing this on the iPAQ for ages now)

the phone takes a long time to be ready from power on, around about a minute to be able to use the menu and another 10 seconds or so to get a network connected

bluetooth implementation is not great and I cannot pick items to send via bluetooth as there is no FTP profile in the phone. Indeed you cannot select a picture (for example) and send via IR even, only email and MMS are available options. you have to go to file manager to be able to send via IR

to answer a question posed, so far I have not found any way to be able to use mp3 or wma as ringtones

its nice that the top icon list updates itself so the most recent applications are listed first as this saves time scrolling through the start menu

it does have a flight mode too btw

not much else to complain about but all in all I do like the interface compared with "normal" phones though I can see room for improvement

the screen, although the same resolution as the k700, is nice and big compared to the K700 (for example) and the same size as that on the V3 and I find I have to wear my glasses less to view the screen

pocket internet explorer will always be my choice of handheld browser, even compared to opera on P910 etc and pocket outlook emails work great too.

msn messenger is a nice to have but sometimes the other person has to wait a while for me to compose my replies

there is also pocket MSN but I don't use MSN so that won't be any use to me

I use windows media player to play my music but leave video playing to betaplayer (as mentioned earlier) as its heaps better with many more configurable options, and its free too!

finally, the standby screen is just as useful as it is on ipaq, showing the operator currently connected to, date, time, my next appointments, profile and number of text messages and of course the icon list of recently used applications. the level of details can be changed or removed to look just like most phones with operator, date and time

I'll spend more time with this phone and make any more relevant comments that I think are important

Thx masseur for infos. I'm somehow dissapointed.. About bluetoth: so in other words u cannot transfer data via bt from pc to phone and vice-versa? How much memory (internal) is left for the user? What about the quality of audio?.. And u can set mp3 and wma as ringtones, u must copy them to \\Storage\\Application Data\\Sounds ... tell me if it works or not

trying to send a file using bluetooth from my pc to SP3i gives me a message saying that no FTP client exists on the SP3i

I had about 27mb when I last checked but I already transferred some stuff to the phone

audio quality is ok until you turn the volume right up and then the speaker can't handle the MP3 music I tried very well

I did copy the MP3 there but they don't show up in the list of sounds when selecting ringtones. I also copied them to "my documents" too.

I've read somewhere that u can use mp3 sounds if u copy the files to the path speciefed before (the person had an audiovox 5600 -htc typhoon).. Have u made some calls with the sp3i? If so, how is the voice of the interlocutor? Is it clear or 'metalic' (like nokia)? What about the performance? The apps/games run smoth? How many mb of free ram do you have if no program is opened? What about video playback? How is the joystick (compared to t610)? How do you transfer the files beetwen the pc and phone and what about the speed? The package does include a data cable? Thx again

so many questions

well I have tried and tried and I cannot get the MP3 to show up in the list offered for ringtone selection. I have tried large and small MP3 in case there was a size limit.

calls are perfectly clear, not tinny or metalic at all. its nice when you answer the call that you get a "view calendar" option on screen and also if the caller is recognised you get a "view contact" option too

performance is great but then it is a pretty zippy processor (170mhz I recall reading). The best way to test that is to play some videos and they run very smoothly without exception

the joystick is nice and wide but perhaps a little stiff and I do find it a little hard to get it to the up position sometimes. I expect it will loosen up after time.

transferring files is easiest done while connected to the pc via activesync. this is the same as how my ipaq works and in windows explorer you get a "mobile device" entry which can be expanded to show most folders on the phone

the package does include a USB to mini USB cable but its a sync cable only so I am actually using the USB to mini USB sync and charge cable that came with my motorola V3 as it charges the phone at the same time.

apparantly some of the bluetooth questions will be answered in an upcoming firmware release which is downloadable from the i-mate web site btw

Well, I got an email from i-mate customer services. they say that the sp3 and sp3i will only use WAV or MIDI files as ringtones as that is all the Windows for Smartphone second edition supports.

Course, the Audiovox 5600 (sp3) manual says you can use WMA files too, as does the O2 xphone II (sp3i) site.

Try putting a WMA file in the same place you tried the mp3 and see if that works. It's pretty much agreed now that these phones don't support MP3 ringtones, but if they support WMA then it'd save me a lot of time converting my files to WAV format when I get the SP3i

@masser i ask so many questions because i'm so curious :) I'm just wondering if the sp3i can handle multiple apps at same time.. It is multitasking isnt it? How you switch beetween apps? (sorry for bothering you, but i hadnt the chance to test a windows phone). Hope the fw will improve the bt capabilities.. @simon well, it must be possible to use mp3 as ringtones since the internal sw is capable to decode mp3s.. or it's a microsoft restriction?

I wasn't complaining about so many questions (hence the smiley!)

I've tried copying a couple of WAVs to the sounds folder and my documents but neither show up in the ringtone list so I am a bit confused about this one

yes, its multi tasking. I can start it connecting to email and downloading while I switch and do something else. it will also continue to play music or videos in the background. ditto for browsing etc

you can just press the home key or the red phone key and it takes you back to the standby page

just because it plays MP3 doesn't mean they can be used as a ringtone. remember the P800 had MP3 capability but not for ringtones, for example

Try to search for a predefined ringtone and copy your audio file in that folder.. Have u tried wap sites (eg: esato, yahoo)? If so, the pocket ie does handle them perfectly? Can you connect using a proxy with pocket ie and msn? I forgot to ask u if u like the design :)

ok, although you can't use mp3 as ringtones you CAN use WMA! I was putting them in the wrong place. They need to go into Storage/Application Data/Sounds (rather than My Documents or My Documents/Sounds as I was trying before)

@masseur: thanks for the feedback on the features of this phone, with confirmation of the WMA files as ringtones, I am now almost certain this will be my next phone
