Picture ID missing really annoys me! Do you think there is any chance of that being added in a future firmware update. Also, is there any possibility to save a picture during a video call, i.e. a picture of yourself or the one you are talking to in a video call?

There definatly is a chance of updating the firmware to change anything on the phone... Though the http://developer.sonyericsson.com site doesn't say anything about wether that is stored on ROM, EEPROM or some other kind of memory. I'm only getting started with looking at how to program cell phones, but traditionally, this is not firmware problem... Of course, for embedded devices everything becomes firmware. Still, it might be possible that a java application has access to change the running OS, through a subset of J2ME, to get the caller's picture id to appear. Still, this would either have to be standard in J2ME, or one might have to know how the current firmware works (not likely to happen unless your sonyericsson).

Updating firmware for cell phones is not new, its quite likely that SE will be continuously dumping more v800's onto the market, so the software and hardware will be under continuous revision... Who knows if there already isn't some firmware at SE that uses the picture id on external screen?

I noticed that the "wallpaper" that I put on the external display is not anymore there after a reboot. I put a animated gif. Do you have the same issue ?

Curiously, I have found the SE press release for the V800 at

http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]bal&lc=en&ver=4001&template...
which states

"With the phone flipped open the high resolution 2.2 inch colour TFT
262k screen displays the intuitive user interface and also the
phone's images or those of incoming calls. When the phone is closed a
smaller screen on the outside becomes the viewfinder and displays the
caller ID and the picture associated with that person - in colour,
naturally. "
Seems pretty clear...so what the hell are SE playing at??
