CDA102298/36 (Asian_Lat_3) which is unbranded cannot use SEUS. WTF?
I could use previously to update to R2L. Bastards! |

I have and unbranded K700i with CDA102286/17 R2A (EU_2)
I have used SEUS successfully 3 times before and now its saying:
"There is currently no service for devices belonging to your operator.
Your device is not permitted to use this service."
Why is this happening now, when it worked fine before?
Any ideas?
I am really really pissed about it. There's a really crappy bug in R2L001 that I want fixed. I even bought the DSS-25 specifically so I could update the firmware to fix the bug. And now this. This is just bollocks really.
Chip
(BTW, the bug is that when you scroll through the phone book, some of the displayed phone numbers are wrong. So when you are in a meeting with your boss and he says "have you got the number for XYZ", you give him the wrong number and you look like a complete chimp. This has happened to me a number of times now and I am sick of it.

We have to be careful on this thread, firstly from going off topic !!! , but mainly because SEUS is currently fecked and is rejecting phones which were previously ok for online update. Mine is the same as Chippy's (CDA102286/17 R2A R2AE033 EU_2). This is an unbranded/locked phone and always has been and has been upgrading fine but now on R2AE033 it is returning a cannot update message.
This is either down to the update service or my phone was corrupted in some way when it upgraded to R2AE033. I am really hoping it is the first !! lol |

So I'm a little confused, was SE-girl on the blatent-BS mission, and did she put me on hold to play with her nails, or muse to a colleague "I've got another %*£)$£ on the line nagging about software and updates and %£$^, I wish they didn't call"....or are all the Orange users of Esato who've flashed extremely lucky (get down to a shop and pick some lotto numbers guys!) - and all the O2 users who've had trouble the unluckiest bunch on the planet (get down to a shop and pick an insurance-policy guys!)???

Well, many moons ago, I used SEUS to go to R2L001. Since then, I've had the same error everyone else gets about not being supported by my network (which is Orange UK in case there is any confusion).
In November when I first got the error (when rumours of the R2AA firmware were aournd), I immediately called Orange helpline to be told that there was no reason that SEUS would not work, they have NOT opted out. I then called SE helpline to be told pretty much the same. They checked my firmware version and said that R2L001 was the latest.
So all I can conclude is that the latest firmware customisations are not yet available for Orange else they would be on SEUS.
A PITA but nothing more.

If you have a UK branded phone then the update service will not work as all four operators have pulled out of the update service due to the complications (i.e. corruptions) it creates on the firmware.
There is talk that if you have used the update service previously to R2AE (i.e. to upgrade to R2L) then the service also will not work for you. SE are yet to confirm this so I cannot be entirely sure.
What I can be sure of is that you run a high risk of a corrupt firmware by using SEUS and I suggest using one of the unlocking solutions such as Total Multiserver, DaVinci or the newer SETOOL. If you have a DSS-25 you can use that with DaVinci, which also siliences the camera shutter in silent mode for you. |

I'm not sure that this thread is of much use if I'm honest. It has become clear that the SEUS does not use CDAs to determine if the phone is allowed to use the service. It's in fact done by the first 8 digits of the IMEI number. Once the phone has been approved based on these digits, the CDA is what the service uses to download the correct software.

@ jagger2k
It applies to all phones, not just Orange. This is SE's system of disallowing certain handsets.

Exactly, it won't cause any problems. In fact, for those that can use the SEUS anyway will benefit from changing the CDA as the SEUS will download the correct firmware. All I'm saying is it won't help those who cannot use it with their branded handset.
