@Whiz,
Macs rarely have the same "marooning" problems that come with a Windoze box. Also, remember, you can count the number of Mac viuses on one hand, while Windoze seems to come with them built into the OS as a feature.

But it isn't worth spending that much money on a mac just because It's safer than a pc. Shyam, i would mainly use my PC for internet surfing, some study works (i am into programming) occasional games, and to store quite a lot of movies and songs. A 250 gb hdd would be perfect for me.

Twunks? I think I can see the contraction but you need to verify that, and my question about purchasing one was more rhetorical than anything else.
@Whiz,
If C++ is your thing, then go for the AMD. Buy a GOOD graphics card, and a supper fast HD, and atlease 512 of ram, and a couple firewire ports and then you are set. You have a pc that performs, is fast, but did not cost you an arm and a leg. |

I don't think either the P4 or the AMD will fall short of any requirements you have on your PC. Both are more than capable. I would tend to go for the AMD myself.
The reason I'm posting is because I feel the memory provided on both systems could be better. Certainly 128mb is less than standard these days. This probably won't cause you any problems, depending on the software you run, but it might be a good idea to check if there is an option to increase the memory to 512mb. It should only cost a few pennies to do that. |

I don't really know enough about it to give you any sound reasons. I do always build my own computers and I am now on my second AMD. I don't sense that the AMD is any better than the Intel, but it is cheaper.
But it is no use having a high-end CPU, and then having a bottle-neck in the memory. Lack of memory will cause your PC to use virtual memory, which is basically using the hard disk as part of the active memory. Because the hard disk is mechanical, and very much slower, it can cause the PC to slow down on certain applications.

Processor is your choice and get a good mobo. Get 512mb ram (ddr 400 would be best ) . A decent graphic card, depends on your budget but i'd advice ati radeon 9600 or likes . Decide your processor and post here then we can help you better

I am getting 256mb with the intel. It has an 865g mobo. So can i put in 256 more? With the AMD its only 128mb.

Okay,for the time being you settle for 256mb ram , then later you can buy one more stick and plug to the mobo and have more ram. However the amount of ram make sure that its atleast ddr333 or ddr400. Now decide your processor first,then we will think of other things .

I'm sure the intel one has the DDR 400 SDRAM. Dunno much about the AMD though.
