Im glad to hear that everyone else is having a problem with the K700i shortcuts menu! I have just changed from the T610 and thought it would just have the same features! Don't get me wrong, I think this phone is great, just don't see why Orange had to take the shortcuts away! |

Welcome to esato Debs_23....
Looks like we're all gonna have to hope they sort these issues out in the first few fw updates! |

I've just emailed Orange as suggested (let's try and ruin their day!!)
Here goes:
Dear Technical Support, I am extremely disappointed to find that Orange have changed the functionality of my SE K700i. You have now added another shortcut to the camera, despite the fact that there is a perfectly acceptable button on the side (is this in the hope that we might send more picture messages and therefore spend more money?)
In addition, the desktop icon which supposedly takes me to Orange World does not work. Again, another useless shortcut given there is already a button on the other side of the phone!
My brother has the same phone on 02 and they have left the phone as SE intended to be and how customers expected to find it! Please could you let me know if there are any plans to change the interface back to its original settings?
I realise you are trying to 'standardise' all your phones but it makes no sense to 'downgrade' the features. It's like Ferrari downgrading their cars so that they looked the same as all the others on the road! Thank you for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.
Probably won't achieve anything but at least that's one more person complaining about the same thing!

Neither of my K700s (VF store u/g and Orange store u/g) performed to spec - same old issues. Personally, I couldn't give a stuff what the cancellation policies are; if the phone don't work as advertised I ain't damn keeping it. VF were fine; Orange were just-about-ok after a stern-ish talking to. So don't be bullied. I'm porting my Orange and VF numbers to the opposite network and buying two generic SE models unf*cked by the networks. Seems crazy but hey, there ya go. Got a *much* better deal, and in line for two decent phones. |

Thank you for your mail received on the 6 June regarding the K700 phone.
I am sorry that you are unhappy with the adaption of some of the functions on this particular model of phone.
May I advise you that Orange installs it's own software in all models of phones and sometimes this means some of the functions may differ.
I do apologise if these functions were in the manual but the insertion of this was in error and has been corrected on all subsequent manual printings.
I fully understand your frustration in this matter however Orange feel that the additional services do make up for the loss of this function.
Please be reassured Orange do value your comments and I will feed your comments back to the appropriate department for consideration.
May I apologise for the inconvenience that you have experienced and I am sorry that I am unable to assist you further in this matter.
Kind regards
Ian

I have just bought the K700i phone and was greatly disappointed to find that Orange have messed around with the menu shortcuts and the operating system to the extent where I will be forced to return the phone and exercise my 14 day cooling off period. One of the buttons has now been assigned as a camera button instead of the proper menu button, (giving the phone TWO camera buttons when only one will suffice). I also discovered that the shortcut keys and the soft key has been locked, removing the customisation feature that I wanted in this handset. I know that orange provide some additional services, but surely a phone which works they way that Orange and Sony Ericsson advertise is more important?! Despite the service Orange offer, I am going to another network provider which does not modify phones that can not perform as manufacturers (and also the specifications quoted in the manual supplied by Orange) specification.

More like a fob-off to me.. What additional services do Orange provide on the phone? I have not seen any??!!

This is a good idea.. Everyone with a K700 should email orange. Maybe they might get the idea and release a new software version.
In fact, hopefully it'll stop them from doing the same to the S700 when it comes out. They're not doing themselves any favours at all. I've just emailed orange as well, I wonder if they'll just brush me of as well.
C'mon everyone, for the sake of not ruining the S700, send the guys at orange an email!

What are the chances that this problem with shortcuts will be rectified? By firmware or whatever.
Im getting my K700 on Monday and the idea of trawling through menus to send an SMS angers me as much as the next man. |

Dear Friends.....
It seems that we are all in the same boat over this issue of the missing shortcut menu on the orange K700i... The reason why they took it off seems to be like a black hole and no one really knows why. Yesterday I decided to go and buy one of the fablous phone (if only I know then what I know now) and it seem that I have jumped in the to the same boat. I have like most of you by now have e-mailed Orange direct and below is what I have said. I also belive that Orange might have been inbreach on the trad description act as it states very clear in the manual that this menu is available and on their website the manual you can down load also states this. I have now been on the telephone twice with them and have been promised a call back next week with regards to this (if that happens). But I will not rest with that. I have been to the Carphone Wharehouse where I have brought the phone and it seems that they have just started to understand the problem with Orange and if this problem is not resloved soon then I am going to have to bite my lip and take the phone back. Not happy that ever other network that runs this phone at the moment is leaving the shortcut menu on apart from Orange.
Good luck to all of us....
(e-mail sent to Orange)
Dear Sir/ Madam I am writing to you with a complaint that it seems that you have now heard from a number of customers. This issue is over the short cut menu which it seems that Orange has decided to take off the phone. I have just recently brought my mobile yesterday and today I have had to telephone Orange three times to find out what is going on, with not much luck. It seems that no one in your customer services department knows what is going on with this and have now been promised that somone will call me back next week. I belive that even if you are trying to make the phone better taking away a short cut menu is not a option that is total open to you and as far as I am aware you might even be in breach with trading descirption act as you have pubished that this menu is available. I would like to know you point of view on this and not just a standard e-mail stating how sorry you are and how you feel the phone is designed in my best interested. If I find that I am not happy with this and feel that I have not managed to sort this out by the end of next week then I will returning my phone to the shop and demanding my money back due to the fact it is unable to do what you have published it to do. I look forward to your response. Not a Happy Customer!! |

I have had a response from Orange and basical they are stating that it would need to be looked into but there is no dead line to when they would be able to give me a reply. I have decided enough is enough and have now taken my phone back to the Carphone Wharehouse under the 14 days return and got my money back. Don't think Orange is going to change their view on the way they have created the phone. Orange supposed to be friendly face and understanding what the custmer needs but who would make a phone where you would have four different ways of starting the camera on the front of a phone? Are they selling a phone or camera. Good luck to all the rest that have decided to stick it out, but I don't feel a company should be able to tell you how something should look. |

I just had a thought regarding the missing shortcuts options on the K700i.
Earlier SE phones used to have a method of configuring the shortcuts "menu" using serial AT commands.
If those commands are still there - could they be used to configure the shortcuts - including (presumably) configuring the joystick command(s) since (at least on the T610) the left joystick just uses the first shortcut command.
Is there anyone out there with a K700 on orange that has a PC with HyperTerminal on it and a cable/BT/IR connection that would care to try a couple of commands?
Cheers
Just a thought!
