@Saif,
you are right. i just got my bill and i was charged 0.15 for each international SMS. i have been sending international SMS forever with my $2.99 300 SMS plan.
i think T-Mobile has gotten way greedy about the new charge. they told me 'well, incoming internationally SMS is free and it comes out from your 300 SMS budget' i replied 'it would be quite rude not to reply to a SMS, wouldn't it'.
i wish t-mobile would provide the grand-father plan whereby people who signed up for the SMS plans, prior they decided to charge for internationl SMS, can use it for FREE.
i jsut hate it when any company starting to get greedy and charge for every little thing. |

I know you can add a phone number to AIM and sent any amount of texts to it, but I haven't tried it with an international number. Might be worth a try. |

in the list setup menu on my version of AIM for PC there is an option to add mobile next to the add buddy icon. May not be there on your version for Mac. |

I just got off the phone with T-mobile about this and unfortunately, they can do it, according to Section 4 of their Terms and Conditions. However, if you're on contract and you want to get out of your contract, you have 14 days to do so without paying the cancellation fee because of this increase, based on those same T&C:
Changes to the Agreement or Charges. We may change or increase the charges for Service, Other Services, or any other charges at any time. However, if we: (a) increase the charges for a Service and you would be charged a cancellation or other fee to cancel that Service, or (b) we modify a material term of our Agreement with you and the modification would be materially adverse to you, we will notify you of the increase or modification (as provided in Sec. 22) and you can cancel the affected Service without paying the cancellation or other fee (which is your only remedy) by following the cancellation instructions in the notice. If you do not cancel the Service by following the instructions in the notice, then you agree to the increase or modification, even if you paid for Service in advance. If the notice does not say how long you have to cancel, then it is within 14 days after the date of the notice. If we increase charges for Service or Other Services to which no cancellation or other fee to cancel service applies (e.g., use of directory assistance), we will notify you of the increase, but you will still be responsible for any cancellation fee applicable to any Services you may have if you cancel Service.
Still, it's a p***k move. I'll reply with how this turns out. If there were another provider with good service and cheap pay as you go, I'd switch. But I have to start worrying about 850MHz band phones if I do. Damn AT&T and Cingular. |

i wish i had known about the 14 days cancellation condition. i think i may have gone beyond the 14 days window.
i had a one year contract with 6 more months to go. damn those greedy carriers.

@TonyMontana,
you are correct in that when you get one from oversea, it goes against your SMS bucket. unfortunately, when you get one you feel obligated to reply or your friends oversea would be wondering if you get the SMS.
i was hoping there are some cool sites that allow you to send SMS on a limited daily basis (like 10 FREE sms daily).
i am already paying t-mobile $2.99/month and i just refuse to pay them for sending int'l SMS |

I wonder if any of you had received any notification from T-Mobile that international text messaging charge has changed on August 29 from $0.05 to $.15 per message.
I know it did change after I called them. They told me 2 things: 1) one rep said that since very few people used this, they did not care about notifying customers, 2) 2nd one said that they sent an insert to customers.
I checked my last 2 bills--no insert, no info, nothing! It is not posted when you login into your account--you need to search for that change on T-Mobile site! One rep told me that it was my responsibiliity to figure that out.

@EasyRiter,
they told me the same when i called them. i can't say i remember seeing it with the statement.
as for item #1, they didn't think it was necessary for them to inform customer because according to them, not too many of us send int'l SMS. if this is in fact true according to their statistics, then why bother to charge 0.15/SMS when their bottom line should be not affected due to the lack of usage. what an oxy moron. |

I HAVE CALLED T MOBILE AND TOLD THEM THAT IT IS NOT FAIR FOR US OLD CUSTOMERS TO SUDDENLY NOW GOT CHARGED FOR THIS 15 CENT OVERSEAS TEXT MESSAGE. THEY CAN DO IT TO THE NEW CUSTOMER, BUT FOR US, OLD CUSTOMER THEY SHOULD HAVE KEEP THE ORIGINAL PLAN. THEY GAVE ME EXTRA 100 MIN FOR MY INCONVENIENCE (VALID FOR 90 DAYS) AND GAVE ME A FAX NUMBER FOR CUSTOMER RELATION (813-353-6545).....
I SAY WE ALL GATHER OUR NAMES AND T-MOBILE NUMBER, AND FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS....AND FAX THE COMPLAINT TO T-MOBILE.
WHO'S WITH ME WITH THIS?...AND WHO WANNA BE IN CHARGE?
LET ME KNOW.

for those of us who have T-Mobile and tired of paying US$0.15 per international SMS, you may consider using the smsbug software.
The may be the alternative for sending Int'l SMS, I got this info from someone in Howard forum and it costs about US 3.75 cents per SMS.
Go to http://www.smsbug.com
1. download it from your mobile phone
2. register your phone
3. they will send you 20 FREE SMS credits to try out the product.
4. you can buy more credits afterward (3EURO for 100 SMS...)
here is the thread from the user in Howard...

I just installed it and it seems to work well. Why pay for 15 cents to T-Mobile when this is only costing 3.75 cents.

Has anyone else tried the SMSBUG software? how has it worked out? I was totally lied to by Cingular .. they said the $9.99 text messaging plan would include international messaging....but guess what? U have to pay extra for the messaging internationally...so the 9.99 plan is totally useless.
Also anyone text-message Pakistan? I need a something that will let me message for free...I know Yahoo Messenger lets u send internationl text to India, Philipines, and a few other places...but not Pakistan |
