Ericsson/SE has a habit of not announcing certain phones that introduce revolutionary technologies... the T39, R520, and T68 were all a 'surprise' release. They seem to throw the press and public 'bone' news. Sort of the reverse of Nokia's approach of "Here are phones that we'd like to make, but don't have the technology to do so."

SE have announced the K700 and S700... usually to throw people off and have everyone underestimate their line-up.

One thing I have noticed since the merger is that SE is now more tight-lipped about the technology they develop and the phones they intend to release. Ericsson was more open, which was probably a bad thing since they kept everyone up to date, including their failures and scrapped plans.

For example, Ericsson was already experimenting with a Bluetooth type technology way back in 1997... for the simple purpose of a cordless handsfree device... this was publicly announced, together with a working prototype. Anticipation for this headset was high... then Ericsson announced that due to technical difficulties, they had to scrap those plans, and go back to the drawing board.

For people like me... announcements like this are welcome. I do like knowing about a company I like... both the good and bad... but for the general public... this isn't good press.

I'm pretty sure SE has a couple of aces up it's sleeve right now. Now that they are starting to get noticed again, it would do them really good to come up with revolutionary phones.

They seem to have retracted the details on the S700... which means that there are either more features on the way, or a completely different look... and I'm pretty sure that a P900 successor should be on the way as well... both of which should be out by Q4.

These are just my speculations, mind you... considering Ericsson/SE's track record for new models. It would be kinda stupid if they released an 'interm' phone for an interm phone the P900 is an interm phone ... but then again, considering we're all stuck with the stupid Sony Memory S#it technology... I wouldn't put stupid past the big boys at SE... I just hope their new president knows better!

no offense... but this Layla seems to look and operate exactly like my P900 i paid a great deal of money for. SE should JUST release the flip for $50 or $75 bucks to current p900 owners... i would definatly pick one up!

well, nobody knows if they're going to do that or not yet; there IS a possibility.

watervillekid... I totally agree. It's bad enough that the P900 is an interm phone for the P800, considering that the P900 was released just a few months after the P800, with minor improvements ... if they release another interm phone... that would be very foolish.

One thing I'm glad to see though... NO MORE BABY BLUE CRAP!!!! I sure hope they fired the idiot who kept designing pastel blue crap as the ONLY color.

The new SE phones may not have the sleekness or sophistication of Ericsson's design team... but they are getting better. I think they could use a new team to design the buttons though. They seem to be fumbling around in the dark for good ergonomics and button designs. Their buttons don't seem to have any though put into their shape or design at all... even the little 'bump' on the #5 key is hardly felt on any SE phone... this is a small over-sight...but an over-sight none the less.

I have to say that thought struck me too, but I assumed it would get more use in a cradle or in your lap rather than trying to hold the phone up and use the keyboard at the same time

I agree that is not a good design but how about holding the phone in the left hand (for right handers) then the flip open and resting in the cup of the palm and using the three fingers of the right hand to press the keys? Try this with your p900 and its acutually quite easy and there will be no pressure on the flip becuase it is seated inside the palm. Instead if we use the thumbs there is a possibility that it can break the flip what you guys think
