I am very found of the genre "realistic" sce-fi movies like:

Independence Day
The 5th Element
Armageddon

I also enjoy philosophical comedies like:

Rain man
Forrest Gump
Dumb and dumber (not so philosophical this one, but anyway)

i forgot to add il postino (the postman - partial life of the great poet pablo neruda) and antonia's line (a russian movie). both movies are in their respective language (which should be) and has sub-titles.
