My guess would be for p900 for starters, and for future models. Not for existing models tho

yes, my guess in a thread a couple of weeks ago was that it would be for future phones. But I even wonder if they will do normal phones or only UIQ phones. remember also that they supply in the box all the equipment neccessary for the upgrade on the P900 (i.e. the cradle and USB) whereas there would be more concern for them if people start using 3rd party cables to update their T610 etc.
Having said that I use a 3rd party USB cable to update my ipaq firmware so it should be up to the end user to make their choices!

well, assuming that this info is in a press release relating to the P900, and that it states "starting this day",
I assume that, as of today, it only concerns the P900...
Too bad, tho... |

Ok...
Have just spoken to SE about the press release. Apparently it was an error and a bit premature. That part should not have been advised yet.
The facility will be available for all phones starting with the P900 and then for all other SE phones soon after. Seeing as the P900 is not available till Q4 this year (November onwards), it looks like that facility for all phones may not be in place till say Q1 next year.
Hope this helps |

Can upgrades be done over bt or does it always have to be done with a cable?

So, basically, it's the same old SE crap. Wait for announce. Lots of cool promises, but nothing actually available at announce (can't even pre-order from SE). Now start waiting with no solid commitment on anything.
I swear, SE is their own worst enemy. I would so rather be using a Palm based device at this point. Were it not for the fact that there is (currently) no Palm device that offers the same feature set as the P800/P900 I would have written off SE by now. The day I can get a Palm phone with Bluetooth & high res screen, I'm outta here.
I can't think of another product that has been mismanaged more than the P800. As we all know, it is one of the coolest devices ever. But SE has done more to make sure it is never as hugely popular as it should be, through constant delays, missed expectations, poor software updates, etc., than any of their competitors. In the US, you still can't walk into ANY of the major cell carrier stores and see a P800. Most people over here have still not even seen one, and by the time the P900 is avaialble (assuming it makes it in stores) it will have been a year and a half since the P800 came out, and lots of competitors will have phones avaialble with feature sets encroaching on the P800/P900.
Sorry. </rant>

Firmware upgrades can't be done over Bluetooth afaik, because the Bluetooth connection is controlled by the firmware.

erm.. macgyver (nice nick)..... erm.... exactly how many products do you know were available world wide the same day they were announced and shown to the public the first time?
Production doesn't work that way.
As for it being available in USA.... part fo the blame goes to US carriers and USA legislation as well.
