If the connectors and the required voltages are the same and the mounting is identical, then there is only one other defining factor and that is the software. If the SE team have made it so that the Z600 only changes the desired pixels when a key or joystick is pressed ( which is unlikely), then in an ideal world you will just see flashes of the appropriate icon on the screen (however, its never ideal). The likelyhood is that the software could run either screen, its just that a TFD screen won't be used as well as it could and that the battery life will drop enormously.
Bear in mind i'm biased as i want it to work. All we need is someone with more money than sense (:)) to buy all the bits and test it. SE will never sanction it, so all we can do is wait...

Firmware doesn't neccesserily have to have anything to do with how the image is displayed. That's what I ment when I said it could be possible if all the hardware responsible for running the screen is contained in the screen chip. Basically if the "video card" responsible for processing images into pixels on/off is contained on the screen chip, the firmware doesn't have to know exactly which method is used to display the image. If this "video card" accepts the same imput as the T610 + voltage + connectors match, it could be theoretically possible. Of course there are reasons why this would not work. For example firmware is probably optimized for a specific type screen, and most probably the connectors will not match.
