For a world that runs on electricity, life just doesnt move without it. I really feel sorry for the people in the US. Hope U guys get the electricity restored as soon as possible ... so as to go back to normal lives.

Yes, because "Electricity" comes from "Eels" it may have been caused by over fishing in rivers, not many people know this. |

Greetings from a power-restored, cell-phone-re-enabled, air-conditioned, still subway-less NYC.
Life is getting back to normal: sorting the fridge, finding replacement food, knowing which stores are selling tainted food, who really moved enough into walk-in boxes or buried perishables under enough ice.
New Yorkers rose to the occasion.
Primed by the experience of 9-11 and its aftermath, cooperation kept us united in safety. I will long remember that caring spirit.

@gzumba: Any word on what caused the blackout yet? And if it is the Canadians' fault, will you retaliate? :-D

@judge: blame it on Cleveland! Their lines started to crash an hour before the big poof! Then the Erie Loop international (USA/CA.) Grid began to ask other neighboring grids for massive power infusions. Somehow the safety mechanisms were fooled. Further from the grid, computers could have a few more milliseconds to adjust, so they did not accede to the request. If that hadn't happened, all of N America would have plunged into darkness @ once! This theory makes the most sense 2 me.

Good thing people kept their common sense and there were no tragic outcomes. CNN even reported that the crime rate in the greater NYC area was way below average. A (small) triumph of the human spirit!

@boyi: Well, now, I wouldn't say that... Question (to all): why are the Americans always mocking the Canadians? For me that's one of the greatest mysteries of the Universe! Hey boyi, maybe I'm silly after all!

Why are the Dutch always mocking the Belgians?
Why are the British always mocking the Scottish and/or the Irish?
Call it friendly neighbor rivalry

New Yorkers blame New Jersey and Americans mock Cleveland since their river caught fire 30+ years ago.
