all you need for good playback on the P800 speaker is a Mono format at a 48kb bitrate. using that rate, i have 46 songs on my memory stick taking up less than 53MB. very cool indeed... |

there are lots of apps - i use www.dbpoweramp.com - it's free and there's a link to the ogg codec that you have to install as well ... |

stereo better if you listen with headphones. if just on the P800 speaker, and the P800 has only 1 speaker, then mono is all you need.
i use dbpoweramp too. |

Yes the mp3 was larger than it should have been so I converted it quite hard.. |

I have never tried an ogg player or anything related to ogg files. Are they better then the "old" mp3 files? If so then I could just make about 11'000 mp3's into ogg thus save some space.

@Lordmike
mp3 was the pioneer of music compression format.
Better formats for compression & sound quality are wma (Microsoft) or mp3pro(Thomson).
ogg is a open source format that is as good as if not better the wma or mp3pro (Bit like comparing Microsoft to Linux ) |

I downloaded dBpowerAMP and the Ogg codec but whenever I try convert any MP3's I get prompted to download the Power Pack (which you have to buy), despite having installed and located the Ogg codec.
Any ideas? |

Well then I just need an mp3pro proggie then. All I have is musicmatch jukebox. Know any other good ones?
By the way, there is a book out about how much linux sucks compared to windows.. quite thick. So no use comparing two OS that work great if you just have the right drivers.
Back to the ogg thingie.. hmm Well would be cool to have. Or that mp3pro.

OggPlay! 0.6 beta was just released, here is whats new/improved since 0.5b:
The options dialog allows to set an alarm time. Wake up in the morning with your favourite music.
There is a little slider which indicates the song position and which can be dragged to seek to a new position.
More key assignments in flip-close mode:
Jog dial : push - pause/resume up/down - next/previous song scrolling - set volumeOK key : pause/resume"back" key : put player into background"C" key : stopmenu key : shuffle playlist
Bugfix: The player would sometimes after going into the background refuse to come back again.
The player should now display chinese characters (big5 encoding) in track titles correctly. This works only for phones which have the big5 encoding and chinese character sets installed. My phone for example (the version sold in Germany) does not have it.
As usual, get it from http://www.geocities.com/p800tools
